Good pickup.
Belichick really is great with roster construction. |

Not bad signing as a Bennett replacement, obviously not as good, but if Bennett really is eyeing 9/10 mil per year, then there's no way they can sign him. A shame, he's a fun guy to root for. Hope he ends up somewhere in the NFC so I can enjoy his success a little bit. _________________ Adopt-a-Pat

What 4th rounder are we sending the Colts? Thought we didn't have any? _________________

They had two - their own and Seattle's. The NFL gets the higher pick (Seattle's) and their own was traded in the Clark deal |

I'd have preferred someone more durable. |

Basically we are banking on him being as good a blocker as he always has been and can be used in some redzone situations (hopefully we can get him over his knack for dropping some passes). And like Bennet it relieves Gronk of having to carry the whole load at TE. So we are hoping both don't get injured.
I kinda still hope we draft a TE. It's a deep draft and this is the year to get some cheap Gronk insurance. Especially since he is going to be a major question mark in a year or so. _________________ Signature |

Ideally this doesn't mean Bennett's departure. Given BB, I don't think it has to. Given injury histories all around, this is the type of move you make to ensure you can run two tight end sets all year. _________________

Bennett already announced he is not going to re-sign _________________

Not quite sure why all Pats fans hadn't realized Bennett was long gone.
It was blatantly obvious when immediately after the Super Bowl he was on TV proclaiming "they overpay Super Bowl Champions."
And the Patriots don't overpay anyone. Putting two and two together, Bennett was always a rental. One well worth it too. Hopefully someone does overpay him and we end up with a 3rd back for him, even thought it is more likely a 4th. |

Sucks this means Marty is gone. I really enjoyed watching him here and his personality off the field. He battled injuries all year. It was a win-win for both sides. He's going to get paid.
I like Allen a lot and he's a decent replacement. Blocks well, good red zone target. Durability is obviously a concern, but his contract is going to be much cheaper than Bennett's and he's younger.
The way his contract is structured, this is most likely a 1-year deal. For a 4th round pick, it's hard to complain about this move. _________________ (XXXVI) (XXXVIII) (XXXIX) (XLIX) (LI) |

Am I right in thinking that trades have no bearing on comp picks? _________________ Adopt-a-Pat

I think he can fill in nicely for Bennett. He's hungry for a title - like Bennett was. Bennett got his playoffs and now he wants his payday. Allen should fit in nicely.
Time to get Hightower and Butler squared away. _________________ "There is no substitute for victory." ~ General Douglas MacArthur. |

Didn't we have a Pats poster talking about meeting Allen whilst on vacation, and how he was an interesting and cool guy? _________________ Adopt-a-Pat

Now I REALLY wish the Pats had held off on making this trade, because Gary Barnidge was just released by Cleveland. |

Hi!
Gave him plenty of crap for constantly losing to the Pats too... Was stoked when he got traded to us! |
