Ok, let's do a bit of contract/cap maths:

6 year, 78 M$, 40 M$ guaranteed, 20 M$signing bonus, 30 M$ over first two years:

2017: 1 M$m$ Base Salary, 20 $ Signing bonus, cap: 4.33 M$
2018: 9 M$ base, cap: 12,33 M$
2019: 10 M$ base, cap 13.33 M$

At this point Berry will be 32 years old, and all guarantees have been paid.
From now on it's pay as you go ...

2020: 10 M$ base/roster bonus, cap 13.33 M$, dead: 10 M$
2021: 9 M$ base, cap 12.33 M$, dead: 6.66 M$
2022: 9 M$ base, cap 12.33 M$, dead 3.33 M$

I assume there will be a significant roster bonus in 2020 to force the team's hand early in offseason ...

I think this contract is basically a 3 yr, 40 M$ contract with three years of team options.

Is the signing bonus considered part of the gtd money?

yes

Yo KC, you're adding the Signing Bonus for all 6 years in your breakdown Wink

All I can say is WOOOOWWWWWW. Glad to have Berry forever tho. No wonder it's rumored that Poe will be let go. Smart move IMO 'cause KC will get a comp pick for him.

As samsel pointed out correctly (the first one who noticed my trap) - the signing bonus will only be prorated over 5 years ... thus:

Ok, let's do a bit of contract/cap maths:

6 year, 78 M$, 40 M$ guaranteed, 20 M$signing bonus, 30 M$ over first two years:

2017: 1 M$m$ Base Salary, 20 $ Signing bonus, cap: 5 M$
2018: 10 M$ base, cap: 14 M$
2019: 10 M$ base, cap 14 M$

At this point Berry will be 32 years old, and all guarantees have been paid.
From now on it's pay as you go ...

2020: 11 M$ base/roster bonus, cap 15 M$, dead: 8 M$
2021: 12 M$ base, cap 16 M$, dead: 4 M$
2022: 12 M$ base, cap 12 M$, dead: 0 M$

I assume there will be a significant roster bonus in 2020 to force the team's hand early in offseason ...

I think this contract is basically a 3 yr, 40 M$ contract with three years of team options.

Here are Terez Paylor's numbers. Guess I wasn't that far off:

Quote:
▪ Berry’s contract is for six years and $78 million. It includes $40 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus, the richest ever given to a NFL defensive back.

The first-year cap number is $5 million. It includes a base salary of $900,000 and a workout bonus of $100,000.

Berry’s cap numbers are as follows: $13 million in 2018, $16.5 million in 2019, $13.5 million in 2020, $16 million in 2021 and $14 million in 2022. He has workout bonuses of $100,000 each year.
