Interesting thought it's not original because I know some people outside of me have brought this up. I never understood the drafting of Fowler because I thought Fowler would have probably been an all pro 34OLB coming out of college. I would be all for it because I think it would bring a interesting element to the team on defense. But also it's going to cause issues because of Jack I think it could work if we didn't have Poz that way we could move Jack to middle , Smith will, Fowler sam. It makes an interesting debate because what do they do with Poz? Do you think Fowler should stay at DE? Thoughts?

Move on from Poz. Make Telvin the team captain with the headset. Keep Telvin at Will, but make him the Mike in one LB packages. Move Jack to Mike. Move Fowler to Sam.

Keep Yannick as the small DE. Let Fowler/others sub there. Bring back Miller and use him in a rotation with Abry. Malik and Day at the other DT spot. Don't be afraid to mix all 4 up. Get rid of the elephant end. Use whatever holdovers from the elephant end that you can't cut to bolster the inside. If you can't bring back Miller, consider Odrick/Alualu for that role. Draft/sign prototypical LE pass rushers.

At least that's what I would do.

I feel as though more then likely this new regime may do for Poz. Its sad because I feel Poz has been a dependable guy for us over the last several years. Fans love Poz and rightfully so but I think its about that time to move on from Poz.

I don't really get it. His best skill was rushing the passer, right? So why does the article suggest standing him up, and letting him play more coverage in the flats rather just focusing on rushing the passer?

As an outsider, help me out. What exactly was Fowlers role?

Laughing Well Damn!.. Give the cat 1 more year.. I don't know if they use him like the Raiders used Mack when in 15 he was all pro at 2 positions. They still need to find a role to maximize his skill set. The Jags may use him in both capacities this year standing up and hand on the ground hopefully he can resurrect this year and I hope he matures this year because he did a lot of dumb stuff on the field to hurt his squad this past season.

@Jlash I think they are referring to how he was used at UF they moved Fowler around a lot there because he has a motor out of this world. He got snaps standing up, DE, and DT. That is the only reason why I thought he may pan out even though he wasn't an elite pass rusher coming out of college he didn't come on until his last season at UF. Only thing that would concern me is his ability to cover TEs and RBs, because I haven't seen him do it. They can't use him like Lawrence Taylor because we don't run a 34. Also with the move I would want him to get down to a playing weight of 255.

What's he at now, 270?

I don't think he is 270 a playing weight of 265 seems to be more accurate, but i'm not saying he has to slim all the way down to 255 but in the area I don't want a 265lb backer running around with how the offenses in the league are spreading teams out. I want him to be able to get out and run in space without dragging around the weight he would need playing on the line.

Yea this is where I'm lost. I think by most people's accounts Fowler isn't an elite athlete. A good athlete, but not upper echelon Von Miller, Khalil Mack type. He's a high motor guy, a strong guy. So why would anyone want him doing anything other than rushing the passer? Why make him think more than he already has to by putting him in space and adding coverage responsibilities to what he does?

Why not keep it as simple as possible and let him just attack?

Thats what he did last year and he complained about putting his hand on the ground and getting after the QB from the defensive end position. Therefore this team needs to find ways that he is comfortable with. Wash's best bet is to create a sub package where you can use him and where he is comfortable. To me there is not better way to use him than as a SAM. It's not that problematic when you're pretty much playing zone or getting a man predicated to whatever the defensive play call is. From time to time you give him those opportunities to blitz from the SAM position. He had a year where he played with his hand in the ground every play and it created 4 sacks. I wouldn't continue putting a guy in a position to make plays that he doesn't want to play so he can resent playing the position and give his coaches half assed effort. Do things that are going to keep him motivated to make plays (sucks that you have say that for jokers making millions but it is what it is).
