Cincinnati Bengals Mock Offseason
- IrishBengalGXG

Offseason

Cap Space – Roughly 43.8

Resign

Dre Kirkpatrick – 5 years – 35 mil – 6 mil cap hit this year
Kevin Zeitler – 6 years – 44 mil – 8 mil cap hit this year
Cedric Peerman – 2 years – 6 mil – 2 mil cap hit this season
Brandon Thompson – 1 year – 1 mil

Minimal Tender

Paul Dawson
TJ Johnson

Extension

Tyler Eifert – 5 years – 45 mil – 6 mil cap hit this year

Major Walks and Why

Andrew Whitworth – I believe they offer Whitworth a one-year deal for 9.5 but he wants to stay tackle and we give half tackle/half guard, to try out players at LT and another team offers him a better contract with more years not just a one-year deal

Brandon LaFell – After a solid season another team offers him more than we are willing to pay, something close to a 4 year, 28 mil while we offer 2 year 10 mil

Cuts

Adam Jones – Save 6.3 in Cap

Cap

Roughly 17.8 mil

Free Agents (after comp. period)

Jake Long– Min deal possible
Dion Jordon – Min Deal
William Gholston – 2 year – 4 mil – 1 mil cap hit

Trades

Andy Dalton to the Washington Redskins for #18, 2nd Rd (#49), 2018 1st Round and 2019 3rd Round
- So why in the world would I do this? Well I’m thinking we’re not offered anything more than a single 3rd Rd for McCarron and most of the offers aren’t even for this draft. Washington however loses Cousins to the 49ers in free agency and are now out of QBs. When Washington comes calling about McCarron, Cincy who has trust in McCarron but doesn’t like the offer, asks what they’d give up for Dalton, who is under contract for more years but also easily cut-able. Gruden sees a reunion with his first QB and spends big. Cincy trusts McCarron as a starter, runs with the big price tag and saves 11 mil in Cap this year after the dead money hit, gets a cheaper QB option with extra picks.
- My hope comes out and McCarron balls like the Tom Brady I believe him to be

YES, THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN BUT I THOUGHT WHY THE HELL NOT

2017 NFL Draft

Round 1, Pick #9 – Malik Hooker, FS – Ohio State

- I have Reuben Foster off my board here and Johnathan Allen did not fall. I like Solomon Thomas from Stanford but Barnett should not be in stipes so Bengals go best overall here and take a ball hawk that will help our turnover ratio as the Bengals did not give it up often but they did not take it away often either, hopefully this pushes the scale in our favor on turnovers. Williams and Iloka I feel are more SS types with big hit and run game support, this gives us a FS center field type we’ve been missing since Nelson left. Both Williams and Iloka’s deals are also cut-able in our favor, but they will both stick around this year until Hooker takes over.

Round 1, Pick #18 – Zach Cunningham, LB – Vanderbilt

- Zach is my #2 LB on the board and has good value at #18 with Miami almost guaranteed to snag him at 22. He’s rangy and can play inside or out and has a nose for the ball. He’ll help on the outside in the run game, the pass game will need a little work but with a 6’4” frame, he can develop into a good coverage LB as well.

Round 2, Pick #41 – Forrest Lamp, OG – West Kentucky

- I struggled between Lamp and McCafferty here but I couldn’t ethically find McCafferty falling to us here, if he did he’s my pick easy, but Lamp is a solid Guard who will help shore up the inside and develop behind Boling. He also gives the Bengals options to be able to shift up the line to compensate for the lose of Whit.

Round 2, Pick #49 – Gareon Conley, CB – Ohio State

- Dennard isn’t trusted and while I have faith in William Jackson to take over and be a solid starter, depth pick coupled with BPA takes Conley here to shore up our heavily invested secondary

Round 3, Pick #73 – Dede Westbrook, WR – Oklahoma

- Dede is a perfect fit for the Bengals and my player crush for this draft. He is very quick, Antonio Brown like, who will play the Bengals favorite play, the screen pass. He can take it and run, make players miss. He fits the Bengals offensive scheme perfectly. Perfect slot and makes an amazing offense complete with MCcarron at the helm with his precision passing.

Round 4 – Tanoh Kpassgon, DE – Villinova

Round 4 – James Connor, RB – Pittsburgh

Round 4 – Nathan Peterman, QB – Pittsburgh

Round 5 – Conor McDermott, OT – UCLA

Round 6 – Eujin Price, LB – Pittsburgh

Round 6 – Jake Elliot, K – Memphis

Round 6 – Treyvon Hester, DT – Toledo

Round 7 – Jahad Thomas, RB – Temple

Notable Rookie Free Agents

- WR Corey Smith – Ohio State
- RB Justin Davis – USC
- LB Paul Maglorie Jr – Arizona
- OT Robert Leff – Auburn

Post Draft Moves

Cuts

Rey Maualuga

Signings

None of note

While it is highly unrealistic, I enjoyed reading it. Nice job overall

Trading Dalton is interesting. I would like a big return for the qb, but I don't think AJ has proven himself to the point I would feel comfortable doing that.

Definitely the most interesting mock I've seen to date. Also the most unrealistic, but definitely the most interesting.

Your mock would either propel the team to heights not seen since the 80s or would set the team back years. Laughing

That offensive line is extremely worrisome

I think you have to keep Whit if you change qbs. Or if you don't, come to think of it.

The odds are higher that the Bengals will name me their starting QB that they are they trade Dalton.

Very Happy

Mean't to give my thoughts sooner on this, so I'll do it now.

Everything aside from the Dalton trade is realistic. Plus, I don't think any team would trade two 1st round picks, a 2nd, and a 3rd for an average QB, let alone just one 1st rounder. Now for the picks

1a.You must of ginxed this pick, since now Malik Hooker is injured. Plus drafting a S that high when there's other needs would be a bad idea.

1b.I like the Cunningham pick, even though its not going to happen.

2.Lamp would be a good pick, if they didn't resign Zeitler, which in this case you did have them do. I know he can play OT, but I feel like he's meant to be an OG and not an OT, so I'm not sure what to think of this pick.

2b.I can live with the Conley pick assuming they cut Jones. But I think they need to considered addressing the DE problem in the first 2 rounds somewhere.

3.Westbrook is a good pick, considering he has 2nd round value and they need another WR with Lafell's departure

4a.Another good pick, but I would of addressed DE much sooner.

4b.Conner is a solid pick at RB, someone who could possibly replace Jeremy Hill

4c.Peterman is another solid pick, although having just McCarron and another rookie QB on the roster would be bad.

5.Like the value on this pick, can replace Winston spot.

6a.Another solid value, you sure like drafting Pittsburgh players eh? lol

6b.Ok pick, because I doubt they end up drafting Gonzales anyway.

6c.Good practice squad pick, nothing more.

7.Another practice squad pick which is ok.

I commend you on thinking this through and in most terms I would say its a good overall writeup. But the Dalton trade.......that ruined it for me. The point of a Mock offseason is be realistic, which in this case trading Dalton is definitely not going to happen. There are better odds of the Cincinnati Reds making the playoffs this year AND the Cincinnati Bearcats winning the NCAA tourney than the odds that Dalton gets traded.

The Vikings just traded a 1st plus some for Bradford who has been consistently worse than Dalton his entire career.

Honestly I'm not, I like the QB and RB from there and when I was scouring for players in later rounds I like what their LB prospect was like and thought him good on the outside and good for that slot in the draft, I just think some Pitt prospects have some good late round, developmental value.

And as an FYI I'll post a more realistic mock later in the week, I was bored in my IST class and was trying to think of what value I could get from McCarron when it sprung on me what if someone pulls a Hue Jackson and trades big for Dalton, I knew it's unrealistic but while the chances are very, VERY low, it's not impossible. Front office does like McCarron a lot

Ejuan Price certainly is good value. I remember him almost being a buckeye until tatgate went down and he opted for Pitt. Pretty good edge rusher from the OLB spot. Wouldn't be the first time the Bengals double dipped from a school, or triple in your case.
