Per sources, the Texans are promoting LBs coach Mike Vrabel to defensive coordinator. Romeo Crennel expected to stay, likely as [inappropriate/removed]'t HC. |
Quote: |
LBs coach Mike Vrabel is being promoted to defensive coordinator, but Crennel, whose contract expires next week, is expected to stay on staff. That way the Texans don't lose any important coaches, and Vrabel gets a promotion out of it to keep him away from teams still searching for defensive play-callers. Crennel will turn 70 later this year (in June). |
Quote: | Current DC Romeo Crennel's contract is expiring, but he's expected to return as the assistant head coach, according to Breer. Houston didn't want to lose either coach, and Vrabel had been linked to the 49ers' defensive-coordinator opening once Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan accepts the head-coaching job. Vrabel's star has been getting brighter the past couple years. He was connected to the Rams' head-coaching job last week but never formally interviewed for it. |
This seems like an excellent move from the team |

Very good move indeed. Glad we keep RAC and Vrabel both. Our defense shouldnt miss a beat with the coaching change. Wonder if we will hire a LB coach now that Vrabel is the new DC. _________________

And just like that.... we are back to the BS

Texans won't hire an OC to replace George Godsey. OBrien will call plays. WR coach Sean Ryan will be moved to QB coach. |
OB1 has to realize his best years as an OC (or defacto OC), he had TB12 throwing to Randy Moss. MOST OCs probably would be successful in that scenario.
It takes a GREAT leader to hire GOOD people to help them succeed. |

RAC is staying on to be the head coach when we fire BOB 10 games into the season.
Vrabel might end up being the head coach in the future. I did think we might be interested in Kyle Shanny _________________

But wait, isn't this the guy who made Aaron Hernandez & Gronk great too? He was also receivers coach when Jabar Gaffney got 400+ yards, so there's that.
As for Sean Ryan, during his brilliant career as QB coach he presided over Eli Manning going from Super Bowl Champion QB in 2011 to his two worst seasons in 2012-13. Only two post 08 SB seasons where Eli failed to eclipse 4,000 yards and 44 TD / 42 Int ratio that got him demoted. Did such a great job nerfing Deandre Hopkins and teaching Will Fuller & Braxton Miller to catch as WRs coach, he earned a promotion to work his magic with QBs. Yep, this is the guy to turn Osweiler around... _________________

I'll feel sorry for Jets fans if Godsey is indeed hired to be on their coaching staff. _________________

Bills with Rick Dennison
Jets with George Godsey
I think they are just hoping to lull the Patriots to sleep with failed Texans coordinators at this point or are praying for lots and lots of snow next year...
BTW - If the Falcons pull off a win vs. the Pats, Matt Schaub is in line to join David Carr, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, and Brock Osweiler as Texan QBs to earn Super Bowl rings as backups. Such a perfect distinction for our franchise that was led by a backup QB in Kubiak for so long. Can't decide if we are a knock off brand of Broncos or Patriots these days given the Rick Smith vs. Bill O'Brien feud, but I look for Tom Savage to ride someone's bench to a ring in a few years... _________________

Quote: | Texans hired former NFL WR Wes Welker as an offensive assistant.
Welker spent five years with coach Bill O'Brien in New England, so this is a natural fit for him to begin his coaching career. Welker is, unsurprisingly, expected to help out with the receivers as well as special teams. Perhaps he can be a mentor of sorts for quarterback-turned-slot-receiver Braxton Miller. | per rotoworld |

Pretty sure the "reporter" here is confusing his short fast white guy Patriot slot receivers. Welker played RB, CB, Kick Returner, & Kicker, but never QB. Art Briles turned him into one of the original WR/RB hybrids at Tech. Danny Amendola also was short, white, fast, Patriot who went to Tech. Julian Edelman is short fast and white, but played QB at Kent State. Pretty sure Welker could suit up and be the 2nd best WR on the Texans next year (or at least do two things NFL WRs are supposed to be able to do, run the route tree & catch the football).
Welker also brings the new clubhouse WAG leader...
who also was one of the few people bold enough to question the absurd Ray Lewis retirement worship a few years ago, by reminding everyone aside from buying/pleading his way out of a double murder rap, Lewis fathered 6 kids from 4 wives. _________________
