According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans aren’t going to hire an offensive coordinator to replace the fired George Godsey, and head coach Bill O’Brien will call the plays next year.

What a dumb decision. O'Brien sucks calling plays anyway. Welp get ready for another season of a bad offense. Also Sean Ryan is being moved from WR coach to QB coach.

This is a surprisingly ballsy move from BOB. He was always gonna call the plays, but by not hiring an offensive Cord, he has no one to blame next season

Sink or swim time. If offense fails next year there is nobody left to blame. And with Vrabel moving to DC and Crennel moved to asst. HC already, the pieces are already in place to fire O'brien in season.

EDIT: In effect, does this make Crennel the HC? Yes, O'Brien will have the last say, but Crennel probably will take over most HC duties so that O'Brien can focus on offense.

I guess for Crennel, after you've witnessed an actual suicide outside your office, mere career suicide pales in comparison...

* Pre-emptive post post apology - comment made for comedic value only. In no way reflects my opinions on mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, obesity, CTE, or PTSD. Laughter is a part of healing and I am a recovering season ticket holder with few outlets in real life for my frustrations so I occasionally say mean things online to make myself feel better. Romeo Crennel & Bill O'Brien are good guys who deserve better. Rick Smith is a good dresser who has made some good picks in the 1st round over the years. No animals were hurt while composing this extremely offensive message meant as a commentary on Bill O'Brien likely sacrificing his continued employment because he can't admit that his "system" has been an abject failure and he needs help. The first step to recovery is to admit YOU have a problem...

Colts finally fired GM Ryan Grigson today. By my count that now leaves Rick Smith as the 2nd most inept GM still employed by an NFL team (behind only his corporate lackey clone, Doug Whaley, in Buffalo). At least Irsay can just claim he was too drunk or high to care when he kept bringing Grigson back in Indy. What is McNair's excuse for lil Ricky other than profits and some meaningless banners for our Conference USA division.

A couple of things

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000779365/article/tom-clements-to-leave-packers-capers-set-to-return

Quote:
The Green Bay Packers are making a change to the coaching staff.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that associate head coach/offense Tom Clements will "move on to some other interests." Clements' contract is expiring.

Clements spent the past 11 seasons with the Packers, starting as quarterbacks coach in 2006 before being elevated to offensive coordinator in 2012 and then associate head coach. Clements took over play-calling duties in 2015, only to see McCarthy take back the reins later that season.

Quote:
The Houston Texans mutually parted ways with offensive coordinator George Godsey after their playoff loss to the Patriots, and afterward, they announced that head coach Bill O'Brien would basically run the offense without hiring a new coordinator. However, sources say there is a name to keep an eye on as joining the Texans staff as an offensive assistant, and that is none other than Chip Kelly. The pro-style offense of O'Brien seems like an odd fit for Kelly and his college spread system, but Kelly and O'Brien are close friends with a lot of mutual respect for each other's football knowledge.

The other advantage to having Kelly on staff would be if the Texans drafted a quarterback like Clemson's Deshaun Watson or Texas Tech's Pat Mahomes II. Both of them are coming from spread college passing attacks, and Kelly could help them make the jump to a NFL system. Kelly has other potential landing spots like New England, but keep an eye on Kelly possibly landing in Houston.

O'Brien needs to stop being an arrogant jackass and hire one of them. Not sure what he has to lose. His offense and playcalling is already a joke as is. They certainly couldn't do any worse.
