Here is the thread from when he was hired.

Most didn't know what to think. They just trusted the Rooneys.

I'm surprised at all the vitriol Elway is receiving, you would think with the success he's had he would have a bit of leeway with the fanbase.

Broncos fanbase is spoiled rotten dude. I see the same stuff you do. We miss the playoffs 1 year and its like the sky is falling because the fans are used to winning and always being in the playoffs.

Check this out:

5 losing seasons in 37 years
22 playoff appearances in past 40 seasons
7 SB appearances--2nd most in NFL history
2nd highest winning percentage of any major sports franchise in history (Lakers #1)

The fans are not used to losing my man. Thats why you get the sky is falling fans/posters when the team goes 9-7 and misses the playoffs. They are so used to the big splashy moves.
How or where does that come from? Denver has the 7th highest just for the NFL.

Caveat sorry. 2nd highest win% since Bowlen took ownership in 1984. They have traded places with the Lakers a few times. Broncos beat writers on Twitter have been randomly tweeting out their ranking thru the year whenever they would win/lose games. So past 33 years. They are sandwiched between the Lakers and Spurs.

Curious how this turns out. He does not have a ton of experience as a DC and Miami's defense was not that great this year, but the skillset required to be a good HC is much different than the one to be a successful coordinator.

I wonder how many threads we can dig up about coaching hires that people were pissed/doubtful about, and they turned out to be terrible? Hell look at the Raiders coaching hires over the past 14 years. Laughing

Saying he is Mike Tomlin 2.0 as I saw you say in a different thread doesn't make him Mike Tomlin.

I never said that. I said that their career paths before becoming a HC are a bit similar.

My apologies. I literally saw a Bronco fan type Tomlin 2.0 in a thread on this site.

I said Tomlin 2.0, and I too was talking about career paths. But that never stopped anyone on here from trying to get in a good "gotcha"...

Huge step backwards for the Broncos. I like the hire but didn't Kubiak have like a 50% championship win rate?

Well, he stepped down due to health.

There is speculation that Elway wanted to let go of some if not all of the offensive coaching staff and Kubiak was like nah I can't do that. But officially Kubiak quit due to health and the grind of being a HC. Which I do think is true.

I think so too. It's just amazing that he won a championship in such a short career. I wonder if any other coaches have a higher championship rate.

Funny how many idiotic comments are in that thread. No shock l3lind golfer led the pack. Not sure he has ever made a decent assessment.

Yea man, he collapsed on the field in Houston with a stroke was it? and then he basically had the same thing happen in the middle of the season this year and missed games.

There was some serious talk about how he may be suffering from early stages of CTE from his playing days. Working and grinding and mentally frying yourself over managing a NFL team and gameplan every week is probably not the best health decision.

I like the hire, curious about where Phillips goes though and if there will be any drop off in defense in 2017.

Both LA teams, Cleveland, Washington, and New Orleans make sense for Phillips.

I don't know, but I believe he did. The Miami FO was very frustrated with the previous coaching staff for not providing enough input during the draft process, and VJ was high on the pick and fit for his D.

I'll summarize my longer post in the Broncos forum.

I'm not in love with the hire but I don't hate his either. I think it's good that former players aren't speaking general platitudes about him and instead have given really good examples of why he's a players coach. It sounds as if he had a say in personnel and was right on a lot of his decisions.

I get more concerned as far as his overall experience leading a larger group- only 1 year as DC is worrisome, considering he's only coached DBs prior to that. I also worry about his coordinators, particularly offensively where it's rumored McCoy will be the pick, but McCoy and Vance have never worked together before which I find odd.
