If this has been posted before I apologize, but I am trying to get a fan base opinion of the team needs.

Just the top 3 or 4.

Thanks.

That's difficult to say. Do we take FA's into the equation or not?

Because the above post lists DT, which really is in good hands even if Poe leaves, but not safety which would need an upgrade if Berry leaves (he won't). Or do we guess who will stay/go as Mayan possibly did? I believe he assumes Charles is done in KC, I do not.

With the current roster as the basis:

ILB
CB
LG
TE #2
QBOTF

Top 3 IMO

ILB
CB
DL

After that
RB (need another, but with the depth in this draft, we can wait)
Interior OL
OLB
Another ILB
QB

2 people saying DL. I am confused to say the least. What are we basing that off of?

For me it is who we have under contract past 2017. Not saying we should reach for one, but if a guy is there I would pull the trigger.

After ILB/CB is was a 4 man race between DL, OLB, Interior OL, and QB. Wherever the value is I wouldn't be opposed to any of those

Poe is likely gone, and we don't really have a NT on the roster to replace him.

ILB
CB
NT
QB
Pass Rushers(can't have enough) DE/OLB or otherwise
OL

Counting Poe as lost, we still have four good DL. Howard can play most of the NT. Bailey and Jones start at DE. Nacho is the primary backup. DL depth could improve but this is not a need area.

ILB is another story. At present, we have two backup grade players. This is not critical. There is also no obvious pick in this draft. Reuben Foster will be long gone. McMillan and Davis are both 40-50 types, so likely neither will last to pick 60. Then there is a big drop. This is an area that can be patching FA. The Patriots got away with shards and splinters for years.

CB2 is a bit of a concern. Otherwise, we have solid depth in Nelson, Gaines, White and Mitchell. One or more can also play FS.

Smith is 32 years old and the next QB is probably not on the roster. Using the first pick for a QB makes sense.

The HC has a history of taking big guys in the first two rounds. The OL is very young and has no glaring holes. As noted, the DL is solid. However, both could use depth and the best depth is a new player forcing his way into the lineup. Don't reach for either line but also don't shy away. Generally, BPA is the right approach.

So what about Safety? That's what i'm trying to figure out...are we going off who is signed through 2017 or not?

ILB
OG

I would take best available of the above positions with the 1st round pick and the other with the 2nd round pick.

If the QOTF is available in rounds 1-2 all bets are off.

+1

If Deshaun Watson falls, grab him, otherwise I trust Dorsey to get BPA

Assuming we retain Poe AND Berry:

ILB
CB
OG
DL

If we lose Berry, put S at the top of the list, if we lose Poe, bump DL up one spot.

But honestly, we don't have any particularly glaring needs. We don't have any spots that don't have some combination of either established quality or newfound potential (Ramik Wilson has done well at ILB, Terrance Mitchell has looked good at CB, LDT looks great at G and Ehinger will have another offseason of recovery and learning, etc.) So for the most part, we'll be a BPA kind of team in the draft this year. Basically any position where depth matters in a rotation, are viable draft spots for us. ILB or OLB could give us an heir to Hali or Johnson (we still need a third pass rusher even with Ford's emergence.) We will always take more safeties or CBs with our scheme. Adding more guys to the DL rotation always helps. A WR could help us unload Maclin's contract down the road. Another TE would have a big place in our scheme. Even a better RB to add to the rotation would be fine.

I think we're in a weird position where no position is a glaring need, but no position is so talented and deep that we wouldn't welcome an addition.

Yeah if we lose Berry that moves Safety up.. I guess I just don't think there's any chance he leaves, more hoping I suppose
