Via Albert Breer:

Quote:
What stuck out to me here was how Belichick volunteered all of that, and I think what weíre seeing is a little something to make sure other clubs know what kind of quarterback is likely to be available in a few months. Wanna take it to another level and look at potential suitors?

Keep an eye on the Browns and Saints. Cleveland could deal away the pick they got from Philadelphia, and hang on to what could be the first overall pick. And then, Texas A&Mís Myles Garrett and Garoppolo could, in theory, be Clevelandís version of the Oakland draft that netted Khalil Mack and Derek Carr. As for New Orleans, the Saints have been kicking tires on young quarterbacks through the past two draft cycles, were high on Garoppolo in 2014 and saw him in joint practices with New England the past two summers, and will have a 37-year-old Drew Brees going into a contract year in 2017. Theoretically, they may like Garoppolo better than anyone in whatís expected to be a mediocre QB lot this spring, and could bring him aboard on his rookie deal for next year, then tag him in 2018 and do a long-term deal then. At any rate, this should all be interesting, and Iím willing to make an educated guess Belichick knew he was feeding into it last week.

It might be speculation, so take it with a smidgen of salt. However I thought it would nice to discuss.

Would they really let him go??? For a franchise that has a history of making really solid moves, it doesn't seem likely to me that they would let something so stupid happen. But of course if he somehow could play for us that would be great.

He'll probably demand a fairly lucrative contract after next year, and the Patriots can't afford to pay two QBs. If they think Brady is good for a few more years it's better to trade Jimmy now than lose him in FA.

Obviously your thoughts on Brady's longevity will change how you feel about letting Jimmy walk, but right now they have nothing to worry about with Brady.

Jimmy G is ready to play now, unless we think Brees takes a nose dive between now and next year why get Jimmy? Brees probably has 2 years left if he stays healthy if not more.

Matt Cassell, Ryan Mallet, don't let him fool the world with Garrappolo too.

This is what I said some time ago. We'd have to give up a good pick for Garrappolo, pay him big, and end up cash strapped yet again. NO!!!!!!

Besides, Garrappolo is really hard to remember how to spell and type.

Why would we need to trade picks for a new QB right now ? Brees has showed us that he's far from being done.

We'd better use those picks to invest in our D.
