2009 is shaping up to be a pretty underwhelming draft in the 1st. One all-pro, a few other single time pro bowlers, and Jason Smith, Aaron Curry, Aaron Maybin and Beanie Wells all out of the league already, and a bunch trending that way (Sanchez, DHB, Campbell. Jerry).

2009 was an underwhelming draft in general. It was just a down year as far as overall draft talent.

2009 has to be in the running for the worst draft ever, no?

Dont remember who else was in the 2009, but the 2005 was pretty bad in the 1st round

In 2005, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected TE Heath Miller.

In 2009, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Evander Hood.

Well...I guess it's safe to say we went .500 there..lol

The pick never made sense at the time. AJ Smith outsmarted himself when the logically choice was to take Oher and finally replace Clary at RT.

But Oher sucks Think

I would not mind Pittsburgh giving English a call. Can't be worse than Chris always blocked Carter.

Oher sucks now, but he was a decent RT for the first couple of years and he is still better then Clary.

Yeah...I wanted Oher then as well.

He was decent early on, but never came close to living up to the hype.

Yea The Blindside made a bigger splash than he did with his career

I don't know about that... he belly flopped pretty hard after his rookie season. And being a big dude, that's quite a splash.

Carter shouldn't be on the team at all.

I don't see how English is an upgrade though.

English will never see the field again. Either he has the worst luck ever or he doesn't have the mindset to play at the NFL level. He is constantly nicked and unavailable on game day so we never got a gauge of what his talent was. At least he won't be taking up a roster spot anymore.

I wasn't a huge fan of his when we drafted him. He seemed too much a Run stuffer and not a pass rusher. I wanted Ziggy Hood. Turns out AJ and I have similar talent when it comes to selecting a first round pick.

Surprised he lasted this long, only recall him making 1 play in his career vs Denver.

It's a shame that the ONLY thing I ever knew about this guy was that he wasn't any good

The only real star to come out of that '09 first round was Clay Matthews. Pretty pathetic class overall.
The 2nd round was better (Laurinaitis, Byrd, Unger McCoy, Moore, Vollmer) but a weak class overall.
