Agreed. I loved our 1st and 2nd round picks, as well as Powell. I hated the others.

Would love to stash this guy on IR or the PS. Runs a 4.6 40, honor roll student, good work ethic.

His hands need some work and he seems really uncomfortable running drills.

Watch his game tape though, he looks totally different if you can get the ball in his hands. Reminds me a bit of Aaron Hernandez, minus the murder.

I don't know what the heck the Saints were doing. We literally took injured athletes.

Fortt - multiple season ending injuries
Powell - 2 ACL tears
Sunseri - ACL tear

Yeah.. Don't really understand the philosophy behind day 3. Gotta just trust in Loomis and Payton. Adding Byrd and Cooks should be enough to make us legit SB contenders.

It's not that simple but I get your point. We were close enough already that I feel we didn't even need that great of a draft. Just a few more pieces to this puzzle and some strides forward from some of the veterans was all we need.

What's not to understand? 49ers been doing this for the last few years. . Saints have they next year starters at every position just about. . The players saints drafted have upside.

Agreed, see Marcus Lattimore. I'm sold on the idea that RR gets guys that he personally wants in his scheme, and although it may look weird from the outside, the players he selects are his guys he wants in his scheme. Seems people should remember he took over for a defense that was a combination of Greg Williams and Steve Spagnuolo, it wouldn't be too far a reach to think those in the later round were luxury picks that can sit behind starters and get healthy and learn, instead of coming in and making an I immediate impact.

Because of two reasons.

1.) Like you said we have holes. ILB needs help, especially in coverage. We have 3 C's Lelito, Armstrong (UDFA) and Golic Jr. (recent FA). Instead of stashing guys, I would've preferred trying to fill holes.

2.) The difference in prospect levels of Marcus Lattimore and Fortt needs to be considered. Both on injury history and talent. Lattimore was considered a top 60 prospect before his injury. Were any of our guys? Lattimore's injury was also his first major one. Powell has 2 ACL tears. Fortt has had multiple season ending injuries.

That's why it's not comparable to the 49ers situation.

After the 3rd round...if you can't play special teams, you aren't going to make the Saints roster. The Saints are just too deep. Realistically...I am not sure that any rookie in the league (outside of Mosley) would have come in and started over David Hawthorne year 1. I don't think that any OLB other than Mack would have started over Harralson and Butler. The Saints defense is loaded with talent.

The only way these guys are going to be able to make the team is if they are good special teams players...and there is no doubt that that went into play when the Saints made their selections. The also took high upside players...who could eventually become starters.

They have injury histories....but that is the reason why they were drafted rounds 4-6. It's not very often that players just "fall through the cracks". It is always for a reason.

Nicks- OT converting to OG, off the field issues
Evans- Late bloomer, small school guy
Colston- Injury issues, lack of deep speed, small school guy
Galette- Undersized, mediocre 40 time, small school guy
P. Thomas- Shared backfield with a highly taught player

I would rather take the small schooled guy, guy with previous injuries issues, etc...over the low upside guy.

BTW...I think that Vinny Sunseri is going to be very good. You would be hard pressed to find an Alabama fan who thinks that Clinton-Dix was better in college. Sunseri is a ball magnet. He is going to be our special teams ace from the very beginning and he is going to make a FANTASTIC nickel/dime safety one day. That is really all that you can hope for with these late round picks.

Based on who's opinion. That's the problem guy...we get so overwhelmed by these consensus draftnik big boards without even considering that Rick Reiprish is one of the top 5 minds in the business. If a guy is falling on the consensus big board it is likely for a reason and I would rather have an outside of the box thinker like Reiprish. Most of our "consensus" fallers...Martez Wilson and Greg Romeus...have been huge busts. Lets have Reiprish do his think and hopefully he has a good understand of what Rob Ryan wants to build.
