FFMD ’15 – The future is in your hands

We are a small group of members also known as the A-Team, tasked with the job of collaborating, researching and developing an overall better experience for Football’s Future Mock Draft, better known to us all as FFMD.

This venture will be closely scrutinized by several site moderators to insure this project follows the guidelines of Footballsfuture.com, as well as our vision of a final product is parallel to that of the site moderators.

We understand that the concept of FFMD is meant to be fun, provide a means for group discussion, be educational, allow for bragging rights, and anything else that draws us mockers together once a season.

This project we are working on isn't going to be just a one week long or even one month long event because we plan to dissect every portion of the current process, determine if it works, how well it works and if/how it can be improved. If it can be improved, we’ll start drawing up ideas and concepts. We’ll test these concepts for flaws and once we feel we have a viable solution to the issue, we’ll present it to the moderators for their approval to make sure that it falls with the forum guidelines and that it is keeping within their concept of FFMD. Once that is done then we’ll look to you, for your input.

Which brings me to what I like to call the “Owners Meeting”. This committee will be established to discuss, to provide additional proposals on, and finally vote on the concept we present. We only anticipate one person from each team forum to represent the best interest of their team and the future of FFMD. We are asking that the team representative aka “owner” internally discusses our proposals with his fellow war room buddies and provide input, suggestions, and comments.

So we are asking all teams to nominate an “owner” for this process. Someone with a bit of recent FFMD experience would make the most sense - but that’s up to each individual forum.

This is your chance to make an impact on the future of FFMD.

If no one is nominated, we will start knocking on doors and peeking in windows until you do……not really but that was my scare tactic to get you to nominate someone.

Thank you

Folks, I'm on the A-Team.

Someone please take on this job as I don't want to do both. We will need input from individual teams as we move on.

This will not create a huge workload, but someone will have to communicate the forums opinion to the A-Team as we don't want to create a discussion with several hundred different opinions on minor issues.

I'll do it if no one else wants to.

If someone else wants to it's all theirs though, I'll be around for advice if needed.

Here's the first item for discussion: Do you want an annually recurring FFMD based on real world data or a continuous Mock that develops into its own reality?

Pros and Cons here:

Please do! I've gotten way to busy the past few weeks to really contribute anywhere.

Appreciate the support guys, definitely won't mind taking part in this. Enjoyed working with everyone in FFMD.

Usually very busy this time a year, but I'll find the time. I'll post my thoughts on the subject later on tonight.

First major problem on a reoccurring FFMD. You would need someone to figure out Comp Picks each year. With the restructuring of contracts every year the Comp picks would get out of whack. You'd need someone extremely knowledgeable on that subject and while I know quite a bit, I wouldn't necessarily be able to go through each team and find out how to award picks.

Personally I wouldn't much want a recurring one. I think it takes away a few crucial elements of what makes it enjoyable. It isn't quite as accepting of new posters joining in and taking major roles as the teams, after a certain point, will be completely unrecognizable. Looking at this year's, it wouldn't take but 2 or 3 seasons for things to change entirely. I also think a major portion of the appeal is that we get to simulate the offseason right before the offseason actually happens. It's a great primer to things, and a phenomenal way for some of us to get to know about prospects, free agents, etc., and actually look into and discuss those things. If next year, KC had epic receivers in the mock, but we still just had Bowe in real life, it wouldn't line up with reality as much and I'd probably pay less attention here due to the lack of relevancy of that kind of thing to reality.

There are also logistical issues. How do we decide draft order? Can't base it off the real teams because those are irrelevant. No simulation really seems like a valid option. Any vote would be riddled with inequities.

It also puts heavy weight on year to year consistency. All the info needs to be maintained and accurate from year to year. Any semblance of consistency and stability is a lot to ask for on a web forum.

I think it's messing with things that don't need to be messed with, and I don't think it would improve things to a point where it would offset the struggles. But if people are more interested in that kind of option, by all means...

Just gave up my role in the GM Mock Draft forum on this issue - thus may have some time to provide input here ...

Anyone willing to get into the grindwork? Not just discussing, but developing rules and procedures?

Why, if you don't mind me asking?

Why I stepped down? Because there's only one guy who can get it done or so I'm told. I handed it over to him.

Why do some work on it? Because FFMD is (supposed to be) fun (for everyone).

It played out about like I expected it to, where it's now postponed until further notice. All of the competing ideas and opinions will keep FFMD from getting better. I also think a message board format is not the best way to try and accomplish what is trying to be done.

I guess we'll see what happens later.

Alright ladies and gentlemen I’ve put a lot of thought into the feedback you all provided and feel that I’ve come up with a proposal that incorporates many of your ideas and addresses many of the issues that were discussed as well.

I’ve written it out as a complete set of detailed rules and guidelines, with several viewable google docs for illustration purposes. I’ll work at getting these set up for use, so that everyone will be able to see how the contract structures would work.

I’m also going to be working on the Awards section of this proposal in the near future.

ny92jefferis FFMD '15 Proposal

I encourage you all review the proposal and voice any questions, comments and/or concerns to please do so within the FFMD ’15 Development Thread.

Thanks
