Love how Klis started that story.
Monty (I don't know if that's his nickname but that's what I'm calling him) will have a chance to compete and I fully trust that Fox/Gase/Magazu will find the best OL combo they can find. Competition is never a bad thing. _________________ big_palooka:

Nice move....
This team needs experienced vets for 2014...all over the line and now we're 2-deep everywhere
WM is not that big but he was probably let go because he had a 4-year deal..
... this might slide Manny R. back to guard and keep Orlando Franklin at tackle where he'll be happy and hopefully play better than the did against Seattle..
.. Chris Clark can still back up Franklin and Clady if he's not 100% and Justice remains a backup on both sides...
This really helps our depth and the draft can go to the perimeter..
Its funny....we were 15-4 and we'll have at least 6 new starters this coming season |

Meh...I am lukewarm on this. If Filo dough is available at 31, I wouldn't feel bad if the Broncos drafted him. _________________ Ninja stealth muggers in the Bellagio has left me in a state of congitive disonance... |

Quite a bit of room for improvement. _________________ GO BRONCOS! |

Manny was excellent last season at OC. It was his only season there and there is no reason to expect he would do anything but improve given a second season at OC.
On the other hand, Manny was a journeyman at OG.
Yes, we should definatley move him to OG (where he sucks) and start Montgomery at OC (he sucks as well).
This is hopefully nothing more than a depth signing and another good locker room Vet. |

Montgomery could be this year's Dan Koppen, first man off the bench in the interior _________________

There's always room of improvement but..
Look at it this was...we have 2 centers...Will M. and Manny
and if Clady is healthy...4 tackles (Clady, Justice. Clark and Franklin)
Franklin can play guard...so he's a backup there since Clark can sub for him.
and Ramirez and Montgemery have experience at guard.
That's being two-deep on game day. You cant have 10 o-linemen active.
See what I mean?
Some of the backups are starters at other positions but 4 tackles and 2 centers giervs us 2 experinecd players everywhere |

I like the signing. For a low salary he gives the team a low-risk player in a needed position. My guess is that Montgomery will serve more as a backup to LG and C than as a starter. With my limited evaluation of Montgomery, he looks like he often gets over-powered by big DTs.
But, if Montgomery does start, where will he play? Will the starting O-line be:
Clady-Montgomery-Manny-Vasquez-Franklin
Clady-Manny-Montgomery-Vasquez-Franklin
If Montgomery doesn't start, what will the O-line look like?
Clady-Franklin-Manny-Vasquez-Clark
Clady-Clark-Manny-Vasquez-Franklin
Clady-Vasquez-Manny-Franklin-Clark
Clady-(rookie)-Manny-Vasquez-Franklin
Clady-Franklin-Manny-Vasquez-(rookie)
I think that the Broncos will add at least two more O-line players, with one or more drafted. |

I think if Montgomery does start it will be at center with Ramirez moving to guard. IIRC, Denver doesn't have a backup at OC, Montgomery could very well have been in to provide that depth. |

I realize this may be a bit off topic, but I don't see why Franklin was so ticked in the first place. The reasoning for him moving inside wasn't a slight on him, or because the coaching staff had concerns about him. It was because the team needed a guard to replace Zane.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is inside next year regardless. _________________

You would be pissed if there is a premium payed to tackles versus guards. If Orlando can get paid more as a RT, then I can see where he could be upset. _________________ Ninja stealth muggers in the Bellagio has left me in a state of congitive disonance... |

That's exactly it
Tackles make more than guards and he didnt want to be move to guard in a contract year....He knows he may not be with the Broncos after this coming year
Sign him to 'tackle' money and I'd bet he'd gladly move to guard but I dont think Denver resigns him after this year and he knows that |

Rt's aren't really worth more financially than OG's.
Dominant OG's are $6mil +-. That's a pretty good payday. IMO Franklin is a decent RT, but has all the tools to be a dominant OG. Better payday at OG. |
