While it is certain that there will be WR's available to the Jets, are there really any who would be considered a number one guy to go to?

Teams are doing all within their power to insure continuity when it comes to WR/TE's.

WR's hitting the open market or being released are in general players coming off of injuries.

Would it be prudent or even beneficial for the Jets to take a risk on a player who may or may not rebound from an injury while taking up a roster spot?

IMHO, the answer is no and a resounding NO!

However it is quite possible for the Jets to sign a CB-S-LB, by doing so craft a draft strategy beneficial to the offensive needs of the team.

A defensive player becoming a FA with the possibility of joining a top 10 defense, playing for Ryan and arguably the best defensive line in football would be quite enticing.

While I am a guy who hands down believes in drafting the BPA, this year may be one in which ( because of need) the Jets break from the pattern.

The monkey wrench in all this is do you pass on a player who unexpectedly drops from a top ten status and is sitting at pick 18?

It happens every year (Coples anyone?) so if a LB like Barr falls to us do we still pick a WR\TE?

FA is all but putting the Jets in line to draft a WR/TE.... I think the Jets for this year at least break the pattern of BPA.

FA definitely should and does decide who you're going to draft. If we signed Orakpo or Worilds, drafting an OLB in the 1st few rounds would be stupid. Same as if we signed Jarius Byrd drafting a safety in the 1st few rounds would be stupid. WR is different bc you use more than one of them, mix that with us needing at least 2 upgrades at WR than top it off that luckily there are IMO 4 WRs I don't think would be reaches at 18 so we should be able address the WR position in the 1st round with it being BPA and need.
