Bucs owners pursued Jon Gruden and inquired about Bill Cowher in Nov. before hiring Love Smith, per @JasonLaCanfora. Remarkable.

I DONT buy anything La Canfora says. He just creates stories where there isn't any. I don't see Schefter reporting this nonsense.

even if we did (I doubt it - Glazes moved fast and hard to get Smith), I'm glad we ended up with Lovie over those two

Love the hires by the BUCs.

I believe Tedford will develop our 1st and very own Franchise QB (probably not Glennon but who knows).

Our glory days were the Dungy years and the few years Gruden got to play with Dungy's team. I think Lovie will bring back that dominant Defense back (we will be feared again) and couple that Tedford's Offense I like the potential.

Giving Lovie full control over player personnel is suspect though. I hope Lovie and the GM to be named will have a mutual respect and work together well, or it could get bad.

Can't wait to hear that press conference tomorrow. Wonder if they will name the GM later on tonight. I, for one don't see anything wrong with the head coach in charge of player personnel and who's on the active 53. As long as he is NOT drafting by himself I'm cool because he drafted some duds in the first rounds when he was with the Bears.

Quote:
“To me, if you play great defense, you can win eight games,” Smith said. “If you have special teams along with that, you can win 10. But in order for us to have three phases that contribute to wins, we need a great returner also.”

But Smith might have someone else in mind for the Buccaneers in 2014. There may be no better return specialist than Chicago’s Devin Hester, who this year tied legendary cornerback and return man Deion Sanders’ NFL record with 19 total returns for a touchdown. In October, Hester brought back a punt 81 yards for a touchdown. It was his 13th punt return for a touchdown, which extended his own punt return scoring record. Hester has five kickoff returns in his NFL career, and has also returned a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown.

“Special teams, we win out,” Smith said. “I, myself, worked out Devin Hester. You’ve got to have a returner. You can win games. We won games based on our special teams and having a good kicker and a good punter.”

Well we already have a good kicker so... Hester... Jacoby... DAT...
