If we can't sign Branden Albert in 2014, I hope we can move up to a Top 5 pick with our 3rd rounder again.

I would honestly trade for Ben Tate over Richardson.

You probably need to accept that Martin is, and will be, our left tackle. Clabo was a one year deal, Teams are starting to put there best pass rusher against the RT, or have two good pass rushers, so I'd think we draft right tackle next.

No reason we shouldn't get a capable one with a pick in the tenns/early 20's.....or where we end up. Very few players I'd trade up for given contracts we already have. A stud TE would be nice but I don't think we need a top ten, leave alone top five, pick to get a darn good one.

Assuming the CB's we drafted develop....I might take a hard look at a great LB that has true lock down cover skills on TE's/RB's. Despite what we spent I don't see that we have such a player and it seems to be our biggest weakness.

You wanna keep swinging for the millers/Thomas

VERY interesting thought process!?!

You are assuming Richardson could run behind this O-line?? VERY interesting thought process!?!?

Yes, yes I am.
Good RB can make an oline better

Since when did outperforming Dolphin RBs become the measure of a quality 1st round pick?

I would argue that 1st round picks should almost never be used on RB, the lone exceptions being:
1 - A player like Barry Sanders or Adrian Peterson is the RB.
2 - A team like SF is making the pick, and they have very few holes to fill and can afford to pursue the RB position.

Richardson isn't in the same category as Tomlinson, Sanders, or Peterson. And the Colts and Browns both have too many holes to fill to be tossing first rounders at RBs.

Ireland (or our next GM) isn't going to spend the first five picks on offense, and I wouldn't either. Very few teams every actually do what you are suggesting.

My strategy would be to use a first or second round pick on the o-line, and then follow that up with also using a third or fourth on the o-line. We need WR much more than RB, that would be the other high pick. I'd love for us to find an Alfred Morris type RB in the 5th or 6th round. Fixing the o-line is the solution to our running game woes, not spending a #1 on a RB who only averaged 3.5 yards behind a crappy line last season.

I never endorsed the Thomas pick. The Miller pick was fine, especially where we got him (high 4th). At some point it would be nice to add 2nd or 3rd round RB that has enough shiftyness to make something out of nothing. But the top priority is the o-line.

The final determination on the TR trade can only be made when we see what the available players are when the Browns exercise the Colts pick.

My point about the career stats is that they're easily surpassed because we
Don't value that position.
I know that no team would draft that way, my point was they could.
So to my point, lets keep drafting RB's in the 3rd and beyond and when they
Finally hit on "the one" we will probably have several other needs, but we will
Have one hell of an offensive line of 1st rounders that will all pan out

To answer the question, no, but I would have traded our 2nd for Albert a long time ago.

No, I would not have pulled the trigger if I were the GM for either team. The only players i would touch on the Browns would be Haden, Gordon, Thomas and Bess. ( Soft spot for Bess)

If I were Ireland I would be on the phone with Cleveland to see what could be done to get Gordon for a 4th, Haden or Thomas for a 2nd.

Bump...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/15/pagano-on-richardsons-runs-i-dont-know-what-the-heck-is-going-on/

People are finally questioning the TR trade. Like I said at the time, this is/was a great trade for the Browns. Richardson is not a game changing RB.

The Colts are going to end up in the playoffs, so that first rounder is going to be a late pick. But I'd still rather have Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Eric Ebron, or Jordan Matthews than Richardson.
