If the Browns are contenders this year or next, it won't be with a rookie QB.

Outside of the phenom of Luck and RGIII, rookie QB's never lead their teams to playoffs. It doesn't happen.

The Browns have a great opportunity to draft a guy and just let him sit with no worries next year or even the year after.
Roethlisberger? Russell Wilson? Matt Ryan? Joe Flacco?

Those guys disnt carry their teams. Luck and RGIII did.

Therea exceptions to everything. The list for rookie qbs that were unable to carry their team is much much longer.

ok, our defense and surrounding offense will be good enough to carry a good rookie...

Ala Pittsburgh with Roethlisberger. Good play from a rookie and we're a double digit win team

If Campbell continues to play well, then the Browns could make the playoffs this year if the Bengals don't play up to their potential. I've always said Campbell is a solid QB who is good enough to win your team games as long as there's good talent around him. His problem is that he's usually been on pretty crappy teams.

Once this team finds a legitimate franchise QB, they could be one of the best teams in the league. They are close to having a potentially elite defense and there's some good pieces on offense. They just need consistently good QB play and a reliable running game. It shouldn't be too hard to find a good RB and fortunately they have Campbell and Hoyer to potentially start next year if whoever they draft at QB isn't ready to start right out of the gate.

I know right? If we can just keep up this level of play, we should stay in game close enough to win at the end. For once we realistically are in the playoff hunt come Nov and Dec.

That is all

Ironically for the 5th year of Holmgren's 5 year plan, despite failed QB draftees in the 1st and 3rd rounds.

Except the browns have no running game to speak of.

we've lost one game when not-brandon-weeden started. we have 2 first round picks, future probowlers at WR and TE. Jason Pinkston is coming back. OBGYN is getting more carries. I feel like we can get that run game juiced up. That being said, this aint your fathers NFL and you don't need to run the ball fantastically to win games. See KC and Denver

True

Not to mention that Good RB's can be found all over the draft. Due to the lack of demand for Great RB's right now, the value on RB's in the draft is not very high. Getting a good RB can be done in the 3rd and beyond.
