To get a top 5/10 QB in the league for a decade, a pro bowl safety for about 9 years, starting DE and good slot reciever for many years, a beast LB (eventually ditched us for Nola, but he was good while he was here), and a long term starting left tackle, and more players that helped us short term, should the 2008 Falcons draft class be considered one of the best draft classes in NFL history? It took us from 4-12 to 11-5 immediately and sparked a complete franchise turnaround

Inb4 everything turns negative.

- Ryan has never won a Super Bowl.
- Baker sucks.
- Lofton is gone.
- Jackson is gone.
- Douglas has never been that good.
- DeCoud sucks.
- James sucks.
- Biermann is nothing but a rotational end.

Seriously, though, that was a damn good draft by Dimitroff. It was a draft that needed to happen to turn this franchise around. Talk about nailing it.

It's the best in our history, no doubt, but I don't think we can call one it best of NFL history. I'd probably rank it top-10 in the last decade.

I don't know the Steelers 1974 draft class had 4 Hall of Famers, WR Lynn Swann, 1st (21st overall); LB Jack Lambert, 2nd; WR John Stallworth, 4th; C Mike Webster, 5th. Pretty sick!

Ryan - Great
Baker - sucks
Lofton - slightly above avg. (great at run D, weak at pass D)
Jackson - HAH!
Decoud - extremely inconsistent
Douglas - good slot, potentially solid #2
Biermann - rotational DE. solid for a 5th rounder

rest is a bunch of nobodys.

Other than Matt Ryan, def replaceable players. we jus hit on our future QB and that was really bout it

No...

It was a good draft, but nowhere even near the best of all time.

The main reason for our turn around was Michael Turner.

Dimitrov has not drafted well for the Falcons. He's done a good job collecting top flight skill position players to surround Ryan and make the offense potent. But in the grand scheme of NFL long-term success, you have to build a strong o-line and a strong d-line. TD has failed miserably on both of those accords.

The 2008 draft was no where near the 74 Steeler or 86 49er draft. To rank with either of those, a draft class must have multiple HOF players, or at least 5 or 6 all-pros who form the nucleus of a Super Bowl winning team. Most people don't realize how phenomenal the 1986 49er draft was, so here is an article that sheds some light on what they accomplished:
