A question on NFLN. Which is the better group of QBs? Old school or the young guns?

Elway, montana, and marino by a slight margin. But if Peyton wins the SB this year, I'd prolly change my mind.

What if the Patriots or Saints win it?

Give me the current QBs pretty easily.

Easily?

The old group has the GOAT, as well as 2 others that can be argued as top 7 QBs of all time. The better group might be the newer QBs but it most certainly is close.

Gotta think how those QBs would have done if they were as protected as modern QBs are.

Current guys easy. Montana/Marino vs. Brady/Manning is really tough (I'd go slight edge to the latter) but Brees over Elway all day.

Are we using the DB-can't-touch-the-WR rules in today's game? Laughing

Regardless of the rule change, I'll take the new guys. Both Peyton an Brady will be considered top 3 guys when they retire and Brees will be top 10 at worst.

I'd rank the 6

1. Montana
2. Brady
3. Peyton
4. Marino
5. Brees
6. Elway

So give me the young guns.

This is how I'd rank them, aside from swapping Brady and Peyton, but same conclusion, give me the young guys.

The older guys though it's very close, here's how I'd rank them all time:

1) Montana
2) Manning
3) Brady
4) Elway
5) Marino
6) Brees

NO ONE can compare QBs of this pass happy 2 hand touch ERA to back in those days. Pleassee. Remember youngsters. Back then youcould literally kill the QB.

Now you can't hit them high, hit them low, hit them in the helmet.Hit them with your helmet. They could run out of pocket and throw the ball away. Then can slid and not be allowed to be touched. OTs are allowed to edge off the line. you can't hit WRs that are "unprotected" The league has gone so pass happy that the average QB throws 50X per game. Throwing for 4000 yds is now nothing special.QBs also have a mic in their helmet.

I'm sorry but if P Manning was hit like Aikman -Steve Young and Marino, he might be "Chris" Everrete by now.

Today's QBs are P*ssys compared to the QB back then.

We're talking about QBs of the 80s/90s of this old generation here, not exactly Bradshaw and Unitas. Ain't the leather helmet days of Baugh and Luckman here. Just because the flags get thrown more doesn't mean QBs aren't taking hits, and they're taking them from bigger and faster guys than QBs back then did.

Hell, Manning had his head twisted around sideways tonight on a nasty looking facemask grab and still tried getting the pass off.

I'm sorry, but you are way off. Aikman and Steve Young alone had about 10 "detected" concussions I'm not sure if Brady Manning and Brees have even one.

They weren't that much bigger now then 20 years ago. Besides it's not how big they are but how often QBs get hit. And how hard and where. (Helmet knee ect.)

If Marino-Elway- Montana-Aikman-Young- Jim Kelly and Warren Moon played now, with these pass happy Rules they would exploit defenses as well. (didn't even mention Favre since he played in both ERAs)
