Crazy idea:

Cut Levi at year end and throw buckets of money at Brandon Albert

Levi is on 6 mil approx and we have cap space and dead money so 10 mil per year for Brandon is ok, then draft QB or olb with first round pick

Mr Accountant,

Is this 2014 cap space graph accurate? If so we're already at the cap with only 44 players...

Surely guaranteeing guys like Levi, Colledge and maybe DD will be shown the door. If we have to make cuts just to sign our draft pick slots then i doubt we'll be tossing money around in FA...

PP also will be getting a hefty raise soon....

I was going off rotoworld or something for cap space, i didnt crunch all the numbers (I was watching Arsenal and it was before 7am OZ time), they probably wouldnt have worked for my arguement anyway !
However, Levi and College are gone, DD stays, think we have cash and able to do PP as well, his deal will be high signing bonus and base salaries in years 2 and 3 like we do here for some reason, so roughly it works, without crunching the math.

Tell me this. You put an elite Left Tackle on our current line how much better do we get? I don't see a huge improvement. We are still going to see a lot of pressure on the QB coming up the middle through our below par interior line and off the opposite edge through the under-performing Eric Winston. Teams will just throw a strong guy who can rush the passer, but is not great at it over our LT and then throw their best pass rushers at the weak spots of our offensive line.

We need to forget about the notion that a single player at LT is going to make or break this offensive line. It is improving the line as a unit. I am fine with Levi at LT or RT we can win with Levi at LT or RT on the OL as long as we have a QB and a solid interior.

I am not OK with what Levi is getting paid.

The Left Tackle position in the NFL has become severely overrated and overvalued. The correlation to winning football games and having an elite tackle is close to nil.

I dont want elite, I dont think Albert is elite, he is top 10.

Levi is bottom 10, bottom 5 even, so anything is an upgrade.

if moving up 20 spots at LT costs us $4 mil approx, considering what we are paying Mr Fitz 2014: $12.75 million, plus 1/8 x $10 mil signing bonus, i think we can justify it.

Well for one I think we would be 3-1 right now with an elite LT. And I also think we would have been more competitive against the Saints. I agree that the offensive line is only as good as it's weakest link but I think it's safe to say most of the pressure has come from RDE's(Yes, Winston was awful against NO). With an elite LT, you erase the position where the majority of our pressure is coming from, giving Palmer more time to throw plus the comfort of knowing he will have more time to throw. Plus less turnovers from fumbling off of blindside sacks. I think that's a recipe for a more effective offense.

The win or loss vs the Rams likely does not hinge that much on the LT position. The team was up 24-13 and Levi had already given up two sacks.

I think we might win, but I am not sure of it and it does not just hinge on the LT, it hinges on the defense.

We win the St Louis game with a better LT, we might get an extra third down conversion to keep the clock ticking

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

Too much money for Thomas. Just another body in that position would be an upgrade via FA for now. Levi is just a bad left tackle and the Cards should do something pretty quick.

Like what? There is no better replacement for Levi right now. The only thing we can do is be effective on 1st and 2nd down. Putting ourselves in convertible 3rd down situations where Carson can get rid of the ball quicker. We also need to get the run game going again making our offense less predictable.

The Cards made it pretty clear today that Brown is of little value by shipping him off to P-Burgh for a late rounder in next year's draft. Whoever fills in right now cannot be worse. That said, he never should have been at LT anyway. Why they didn't have him on the right side is beyond me.

Levi could have been a good guard with Whiz or maybe Arians if they moved him. He had the size and strength to do succeed as a guard. Oh well. So now our left tackle options are two second years guys, one is undrafted and the other is a 7th rounder. I just hope they know what they are doing.
