Detroit Lions add DT D'Anthony Smith, release Justin Bannan
Quote: | The Detroit Lions released veteran defensive tackle Justin Bannan today and claimed D’Anthony Smith off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
Smith played eight games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last year and was traded to Seattle last month. He had five tackles in the season’s first two games before being cut on Tuesday.
A former third-round pick, Smith likely will be the fourth tackle in the Lions’ defensive line rotation once he gets acclimated to the team. The Lions signed veteran Andre Fluellen when they put defensive end Jason Jones on injured reserve with a torn patella tendon earlier this week, but still could be in the market for help at end.
Rookie fourth-round pick Devin Taylor will see extended playing time Sunday against the Chicago Bears after being inactive for two of the season’s first three games. Veteran Israel Idonije said he’s had a “subpar” start to the season. |
Quote: | The Lions also signed wide receiver Charles Hawkins to the practice squad to take the place of cornerback Chris Greenwood, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys late Tuesday.
Hawkins was one of three receivers who worked out for the Lions on Monday. |
What do you guys think of the signings? _________________

Smith was compared to Suh coming out of college. He has a lot of talent just hasn't had a chance with injuries. I like that signing. I think we wanted another rush type DT with Mosley/Bannan both mainly being a run stoppers.
Never heard anything of Hawkins. _________________

Not sure I think too much about these signing. Andre Fluellen is going to be more effective than D’Anthony Smith. |

Did you read the article? He was cut from Seattle on Tuesday. We claimed him off waivers. |

Must've liked Smith's upside. Worth a look I guess. _________________
