Aaaaaand this is why we don't max out our cap space.

Nink has always been the 'unsung' guy on the D-Line so hopefully now he will be paid to match his production.

Awesome news. I was actually going to make a thread about how he is the most deserving of a contract extension. Nink is a class act and has worked his tail off ever since he came to Foxboro.

Good for him.

Pretty meh on this. I'll wait on the numbers before passing judgement.

Hard to overpay on a 3 year extension. He's the 3rd highest paid defender because Jones, McCourty, Hightower, Dennard, etc... are all on rookie contracts.

More money than I expected, but if he keeps playing like he has, then he'll be worth it.

I think McMurtry called this would happen about a month ago.

Yes I have been watching much. We have big signing priorities on the horizon. McCourty, Talib, Wendell, Spikes, Ninkovich.

Talib is good as gone, meaning we need a #1 corner. Those aren't cheap. McCourty is going to be one of the highest paid FS in the league soon, so extending him now makes sense. Etc.

Locking up 5m/yr into a DE who is an average pass rusher and below average run defender is not something I'd want to do with more important players coming off the books. If we fail to resign Talib, we will go into this offseason with major holes at DT (Kelly is old), CB, and C, and minor holes at SS, WR (hopefully that's taken care of for the time being), and OG if we do the sensible thing and move on from Connolly. And that'ss when you get stuck drafting to fill holes.

I'm OK with it. For all the splash plays he makes, I just don't think he's going to be worth the contract he'll command in free agency. If he's back on a relatively team friendly deal, sure, but given the option of more money that's likely to be out there, I think he'll be playing elsewhere next year.
