Quote:
The defensive tackle sprained his AC joint during his final season at Auburn in 2010. And in the midst of his breakout campaign with the Lions last year, Fairley hurt the same shoulder. That injury, sustained against the Green Bay Packers, landed him on injured reserve for the final three games of the season.
Quote:
Fairley came back strong this offseason and had an impressive training camp, but during Detroit's season-opening victory over Minnesota, he appeared to hurt his right shoulder once again.
This news is troubling. We just won't be as dominant without Fairley, and what an adjustment it will be for Gunn since he was probably hoping to compensate for some of the deficiencies in the secondary with a dominant interior.

I cursed Mayhew for allowing SLH to walk for so little. He should've had him locked up last off-season. Could turn out to be yet another miscalculation by the GM.

Yeah I agree. I like Mosley and Bannan way better then SLH and Fluellen

I like Sammie Hill also. However, not resigning Hill helped us free up the cap space needed to sign Glover Quinn and Reggie Bush. I would like to see see Fairley stay healthy also but injuries can happen to anyone at any position. Believe it or not C.J. Mosley is a pretty solid player and should be able to adequately fill in for Fairley for a game or two. Jason jones can take some snaps at DT also.

If Fairley is injured then Jason Jones and Israel Idonije will rotate there more often giving Willie Young and Devin Taylor more chances at DE

Is it time to put the label on him.. has he even made it through a whole season. This guy isproducing more injuries than sacks... the Fo ddidn't know about the shoulder on draft day or didn't care idk which is more concerning. I was worried about our dt depth going into the season bc I knew Fairley would most likely not make it through the year without missing some time.

I really hope he isn't injured too badly. He's our best defensive player and we REALLY need him out there.

He's not even our best DT. I agree, we need him out there though.

Our tackles are our best two defenders.

I wonder why they didn't do surgery? He had a separated shoulder at the end of last year... they tried to rehab Stafford and it didn't work. History is likely repeating itself... luckily Fairley doesn't have to throw.

Luckily we have an awesome DT rotation. With Mosely, Bannon and Jones able to play DT, I think we'll be more than fine. That is the best DT rotation in the game.

I don't know about better, especially if you consider potential upside given SLH should be hitting his prime right about now, but I just don't think there's a ton of disparity between them.

Fluellen was only on the roster after we lost both Corey Williams and Fairley to IR though. He was cut before the season. SLH is much better than him, but still not great.

Let's also not forget that CJ was held out of practice almost constantly last year, and he missed three preseason games with a bruised knee. Fairley's kind of gotten to that point where he doesn't need to practice every day because he knows what he's doing at this point. They're just being cautious with him like they've been with Delmas.
