Jairus Byrd and his agent are trying to engineer a trade from the Buffalo Bills by the NFL trade deadline, sources say.

Not sure what the Bills could get for him because a team will need to pay a draft pick and a new contract to get him which is a lot, and in addition I'm not sure why Byrd is pushing for a trade at this point if the deadline for new contracts for franchise tagged player passed and he won't be able to get one until next off-season which in fact might make the team who trades for him worry that he might leave them in the next free-agency anyway.

Like you alluded to, I don't know what Bryd thinks he will get done or why bother at this point of the season. I love Bryd and do believe he deserves a new contract, but my god is he ever being a big suck about it.

Byrd is doing a great job of making himself look like the bad guy here.

This doesn't make any sense. If we trade him, can he sign a new contract with his new team before the end of the season? If he can't then I don't get his stance on this issue. He is hurting his value at this point. With him supposedly dealing with plantar fasciitis and wanting to be the highest paid safety in the league, what real value can the Bills get for him at this point? How many teams are going to be willing to give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick and give him the contract he wants? His best leverage at this point would be to go out and play like he is the best safety in the league and next year he will get his wish.

My respect for the guy is just gone at this point.

I hope we do trade him, it's painfully obvious that we're not getting him back after this season at any rate and we might as well try for a high pick for him.

the article says one source is another team's executive. isn't that tampering, don't teams lose draft picks due to that? how exactly do you, as another team's executive, find out that a player on another team who hasn't said that they want to be traded publicly get that info without contacting the player or the player's agent?

i usually don't believe these stories, tend to think a lot of the media leaks are put out by the team to paint a bad picture of the player. Byrd's demeanor doesn't seem to do much to help him though.

i don't know if the Bills are better off trying to trade him now or if his value will drop if we tag and trade before the draft next year. what do you guys think?

At this point if we could get something for him its better than just letting him walk after the season. To bad I don't think we can get anything for him.

"Excuse me Mr.Parker, If Jairus is the best safety in the NFL.... Why aren't teams offering more than a 3rd round pick?"

We can franchise him again next year too. He just needs to realize that demanding a trade and not playing isn't going to help him reach his ultimate goal of getting paid top safety money. He is digging his own grave. He has absolutely no leverage. He already signed his franchise tender.

Jairus Byrd focused on healing, not trade reports

"Byrd dismissed reports of his camp trying to carve out the parameters of a trade with other NFL clubs involving the Pro Bowl safety Thursday."

Eugene Parker: "There is no truth to the rumor we are actively seeking a trade at this time."
