I agree with almost everything.

I think Tuk will make it over jerod Eddie though, even I would like your decision more.
I also think we night keep somebody else instead of ventrone. Want it to be Morris just because almost all of our corners are basically leaving next year but that won't happen

G: Iupati, Boone, Looney
C: Goodwin, Kilgore

DE: Smith, McDonald, Dobbs, Jerod-Eddie
DT: Williams, Dorsey
OLB: Smith, Brooks, Lemonier, Skuta, Johnson
ILB: Willis, Bowman, Wilhoite, Moody
CB: Rogers, Brown, Asomugha, Brock, Cox, Cooper
S: Whitner, Reid, Spillman, Dahl, Ventrone

K: Dawson
P: Lee
LS: McDermott

Practice squad:

Hampton
Jacobs
Morris (if he makes it through)
Tolzien
Gray
Stupar
Bykowski
Tribue

These are just coming from our own guys, of course. Always a chance we pick up some guys from the waiver wire instead. Also can't help but feel like I'm missing someone important (other than Jennings, who I would be very sad to see go).

Looks good, only change I would make is dropping Moody or Skuta for Hall or Hawkins.

- I would expect Moody to clear waivers, and think we can go with doing that, since we have Wilhoite and Skuta that can play backup ILB. I like Moody a lot so far, but just thinking of the numbers a little.

- Other guys that don't really impress me are Dahl, don't even know who Ventrone is, lolz... and Jerrod-Eddie.. though Tukuafu also hasn't impressed.

- I don't remember the cap ramifications for cutting Baldwin.. but it sounds like I am probably going to want Hawkins more... not sure yet.

Im going to take a crack at it..

Offense

QB
Colin Kaepernick, Colt McCoy, BJ Daniels(thought about p-squadding him, but i think due to his performance a team would scoop him up given the chance.) (3)

RB
Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, Anthony Dixon (4)

FB
Bruce Miller (1)

WR
Anquan Boldin, Marlon Moore, Kyle Williams, Quinton Patton, Jon Baldwin, LaVelle Hawkins(I think Hawkins helped himself tremendously in the past 2 weeks. He has experience and big play capability, plus a return specialist too. Very much in that Ted Ginn mold. IF they keep 6 it will be him in my opinion.) (6)

TE
Vernon Davis, Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek (3)

OL
Joe Staley, Mike Iupati, Jonathan Goodwin, Alex Boone, Anthony Davis, Daniel Kilgore, Adam Snyder, Kenny Wiggins(I would like to keep an 8th guy so I did. I like what I saw from Wiggins. He showed a nasty edge. I think with Kilgore and Snyders versatility having 7 is ok, but injuries rack up from time to time.) (Cool

Roster is at 25

ST
Phil Dawson, Andy Lee, Brian Jennings(I refuse to cut Jennings) (3)

Now at 28

Defense

DL
Ray McDonald, Ian Williams, Justin Smith, Glenn Dorsey, Will Tukuafu, Demarcus Dobbs (6)

LB
Ahmad Brooks, Patrick Willis, Novorro Bowman, Aldon Smith, Cam Johnson, Corey Lemonier, Dan Skuta, Michael Wlihoite(Cam clearly played his way on to the roster. Between him and Lemonier the future looks even brighter than before. Skuta has the versatility to play everywhere and on ST) (Cool

DB
Tarell Brown, Carlos Rogers, Nnamdi Asomugha, Tramiane Brock, Perish Cox, Marcus Cooper(I think the staff like his size and I needed to have 1 more spot filled. He gets the nod because depth here is a nice thing to have.) (6)

S
Donte Whitner, Eric Reid, CJ Spillman, Craig Dahl, Michael Thomas( I liked the energy Thomas played with and I think because of that the writing is on the wall for Trenton Robinson.) (5)

Roster at 53

P-Squad

WR Chuck Jacobs
DB Daryl Morris
OT Patrick Omameh(Everyones favorite guy. Like it or not the staff was high on him. I think they keep him around.)
TE Marqueise Gray
OT Carter Bykowski
LB Nick Moody
NT Mike Purcell
LB Nate Stupar(his play in week 1 was awful, but he got better and better and better. His size is good enough, 6'2 240 and he showed to have a nose for the ball and was capable of seeing through the trees to make the tackle at the second level.)

Cuts

RB Jewell Hampton-like him, too much depth here, especially with Lattimore next season.
FB Jason Schepler- Big bruising FB. Not much use for guys like him anymore
WR Austin Collie- victim of a numbers game and his injury history
WR Chad Hall- He could knock off Hawkins, but I dont see him being a difference maker the same way I do Hawkins.
WR Kassim Osgood- Too manu ST aces
OL Joe Looney- So disappointing
OL Wayne Tribue- numbers game
DL Tony Jerrod-Eddie- saw him get picked up and moved too many times this preseaon. Never really like him, still dont.
LS Kevin McDermott
LB Joe Holland- He actually didnt look bad, but they are keeping 8 already
LB Travis Johnson- This one was hard for me. I liked what I saw from him. He pressured the QB well on blitzes, tackled well, was an impact guy on ST. I would have liked to p-squad him, but for some reason I didnt
S Raymond Ventrone- Just didnt see enough of him
S Trenton Robinson- Just didnt produce in his time here.

we cut 13 guys

Looks about right except I expect Looney will make the roster. Next year is his make or break year.

Yeah, I still think they'll keep Looney over Wiggins. And switch Omameh on the PS with Luke Marquardt, and I think that's our final 53. When/if Tank returns, Tukuafu gets cut. Quinton Dial could bump someone off the PS if he gets reactivated, same thing with Okoye. And I wouldn't be surprised if Tolzien stayed here on the PS until some QB needy team claims him. He's been here two years, he could still be helpful for Daniels' development.

The real question is who gets cut when Mario returns, and later on, when Crab returns. I guess Hawkins has 6 weeks (until Mario returns) to prove himself, and Baldwin has a 12 weeks audition (until Crab). Or Marlon Moore. Or I hate to admit it to myself, but maybe Kyle could be the odd man out, if the others perform. Right now, the only two WRs that are safe are Boldin and Patton.

I could see them keeping Looney, but the fact that he has shown very little if any improvement makes me hesitate. I agree that when Tank is ready its either Tukuafu or Dobbs that will be out of a job. Dial to the P Squad makes sense. As for Kyle Williams.....Do I think he has some talent? Yeah for sure, but I have never been in love with him. He is fairly undersized and so far he hasnt shown durability. I had to take a log look at the fact that he made the roster because 14 catches and 1 TD dont make me feel good about him having a locked in spot on the roster, but in the end he has some experience at a position where we lack it.

I wonder if Dial would last on the PS if we put him there when the time comes. I'm not impressed with either Tuku or Dobbs. They're OK but dial might have a bigger upside. I suppose it might depend on what he shows once he can ptactice.

Dobbs is usually good in a very limited role. He played a whole lot during the preseason, because Justin would play only one series and sit the rest of the game. I don't think Dobbs has the stamina Justin and RayMac have to play all-out for 60-70 snaps. But he can play 10 snaps and contribute a little, plus special teams. I don't think Dial, coming off an injury, without offseason and preseason work, could make it onto a roster right now. From all accounts, he could have been an UDFA, if we hadn't picked him (lots of people considered it a reach). He wasn't a highly sought out prospect. So, with the injury and his inaction in the offseason program and training camp, he's even more of an unknown quantity.

Also, even if a player is on the practice squad, he doesn't have to sign with another team. If Tomsula has a strong influence on him, he might want to stay with us the rest of the year. So, I'd estimate his chances to be in training camp in 2014 at over 75%. I dread the day some team will give Tomsula a shot at a DC job, though... and that might be next year, if Ian Williams blossoms into a big time NT. His credentials are improving with each year going by.

We can always shut down Dial for the year. No need to expose him to waivers, especially late in the year when bad teams will take flyers on young guys for the next year.

The only issue with that is if he's healthy, being on the IR, he wouldn't be allowed to practice at all. Practice is valuable to his progression, and might be worth taking the risk of not keeping him on the IR.

So, I missed on Cooper and Stupar takes his spot on the 53. Imagined Tukuafu or Jerod-Eddie were taking Dobbs place for the Packers and one of those two are likely out when Dobbs returns (I'm still guessing Tukuafu).

Amazingly, 7 players on the team still aren't safe by the end of the year (unless there's an injury that lands them on a reserve list). 1 each will be cut for Marecic, Dobbs, Manningham, Eric Wright, Crabtree, Carradine, and Dial.

My guesses (as of now):

Stupar
Tukuafu
Dixon
Ventrone
Moody
Jerod-Eddie
Celek

practice squad prediction

Marcus Cooper
Darryl Morris
Carter Bykowski
Patrick Omameh
Chuck Jacobs
MarQueis Gray
Jewel Hampton
Trenton Robinson

- I expect Robinson to get claimed

- Replace Robinson with Stupar if/when Marecic is signed

- If Stupar sticks, replace Robinson with Purcell
