Players have to clear waivers first. I think there is a 24 hour waiting period.

How about some practice squad predictions:

RB Joe Banyard
WR Rodney Smith
TE Chase Ford
OG Travis Bond
DE D'aundre Reed
DT Everett Dawkins
DT Anthony McCloud (or Chase Baker if MN adds another DT like Nevis, Austin or Howard)
CB Bobby Felder

I think the PS will slant slightly towards the offense as there are 4 fewer offensive players on the 53 man roster.

RB - Joe Banyard
WR - Rodney Smith
WR - Adam Thielen
TE - Colin Anderson (Long Snapper as well)
OL - Travis Bond
DT - Everette Dawkins
DE - D'Aundre Reed
CB - Bobby Felder

Felton, Love (Suspended), Ballard, and Childs do not count against the roster.

RED indicates roster changes from 2012 to 2013, to the best of my recollection of the end of 2012 roster.

5 changes on Offense; 1 or 2 starters (WR, WR)
6 changes on Defense; 3? starters (CB, DT?, LB)
1 change on STs; P

The more significant changes appear to be on defense.
But was that expected?

What was the greatest surprise in regard to roster changes in 2013?

What was the greatest upgrade of a position from 2012 to 2013?

The Cowboys were high on Dawkins. Think they'll pick him up?

The more I look at the Vikings roster and cuts, the more I like the way they're building a big, fast and young roster. Especially, when you look at the CBs and WRs . . . we got a lot bigger, faster and younger this year.

I like the fact Webb made it and really think he can be a force catching the ball . . . if Simpson gets the dropsies early, the Vikes have Greg Childs waiting in the wings. Patterson, Webb, and Simpson give the Vikes 3 WRs 6' 2" or taller . . . been a long time since that happened (3 Deep, I think). And, Jennings and Wright are fast . . . it feels good not to worry about Aromashadu or Burton getting clean targets only to drop the ball.

With Cook, Rhodes and Jefferson, the Vikes have 3 CBs with good length and speed . . . then Robinson's a true burner, so we should be able to cover 3 and 4 receiver sets better.

O-line and D-line look pretty solid, so let's pray they stay healthy all season.

I was surprised at the 8 LBs, but I think there's plenty of optimism with that group -- as long as Erin plays lights-out in the middle. If he doesn't, I see Cole or Mauti rolling in. I see the depth as very important to develop, because eventually, this unit is going to need strong 1st rd talent again.

Glad to see Zach Line on the roster for a while, at least.

Considering some of the other cuts around the NFL, there really wasn't much drama with the Vikes -- and that's a good thing.

Still not a fan of 8 Linebackers or 3 QBs. I think having Bobby Felder over one of those spots would have been ideal. Id rather keep 8 LBs then 3 QBs though as the LBs can at least be used on special teams and they all seem to have modest upside.

Seven rookie draft picks made the 2013 53-man roster, which has been a trend with the Vikings in the Rick Spielman era. Since 2009, almost every draft pick has ended up making the final roster that year. In 2009, all five draftees made the team. In 2010, seven of eight survived the cuts. In 2011, nine of 10 rookies made the team. Last year, eight of nine draft choices made the final roster. This year, seven of nine made the team, with only seventh-round draft picks Travis Bond and Everett Dawkins being part of the final cuts.

Saturday was a bad day for the Class of 2011. After nine rookies made the team from that draft class, only four of them are among the current 53-man roster. Christian Ballard was placed on the “left squad” list, DeMarcus Love was placed on the suspended list after being ruled ineligible for the first four games of the season by the NFL for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy and Brandon Burton, Stephen Burton and D’Aundre Reed were released.

Fourteen teams kept only two QBs but Buffalo and Green Bay, who each kept two, could still be in market for a backup.

The Bills have two rookie QBs on there roster, correct? Tuel and Manuel. Yikes.

I wonder if MBT has any trade value?
