How is he looking for you guys?

Personally, I think he is a little out of position as a LB, but that's just me.

He's looked ok thus far from what I've seen. He's shown his motor, but doesn't look like a big difference maker at this point. In the last game against Atlanta, he had a great chance to make a big TFL but couldn't get off a block against some backup TE of theirs.

I think he'll be a solid depth guy who maybe can be a spot starter, but I don't think he'll set the world on fire. I think best case he's another Jarrett Johnson which I'd be happy with.

I don't like this comparison at all. Simon has already shown he's a better pass rusher than JJ was (see his spin move for a sack). His problem is in the run game.

I think he'll be, like you said, a solid depth guy and situational pass rusher, but that's about it for now.

Wait, wait, wait, wait...

Simon has already shown he's a better pass rusher than JJ, simply due to 1 play? Sorry, but no.

And Simon absolutely has the skillset to stop the run -- in fact, that's likely why he was drafted -- to be Upshaw's backup at SOLB. His run stopping skills and potential, IMO, are greater than his skills/potential at rushing the passer.

I'm not quite sure we're talking about the same John Simon here.

I was using that one play as an example lol I've never seen JJ use a pass rush move in my life other than a straight bull rush.

Sure, he might have potential as a run stopper but he's got the pass rush moves as well, something JJ didn't.

Only time will tell, though. Either way, he looks like an intriguing depth player, something we always need.

I still contend you're vastly overrating his pass rushing moves purely based on a single play against a backup OL.

i think he looks like hes gonna be another one of those great mid round picks for us. Hes got a great motor and it seemed like he was just a step or two behind making a lot of plays. let him work. get bigger and stronger, and adjust to the speed of the game. I think in a year or two hes gonna be a really solid player for us
