Bad time for a guy to be released.
Not a cap move, doesn't get the team much additional room (about 75 k$).

Not gonna read too much into it. I know that when SF released players earlier than expected, it sure gave me the feeling that our new coaches were quick to assess and remove those that didn't fit or didn't show promise. Our prior regimes were clueless at such things. Maybe the KC staff is wise enough now to make the quick and hard decisions.

Probably a roster numbers issue more than anything else. It could be an off the field issue or personality/locker room issue I guess.. but he was praised during OTA's so this is not a performance issue. (his anyway, they may like others more)

Not a big deal when you figure Bowe, Baldwin, Avery, and DMC taking the 1st four slots and the next guys needing to be special teams contributors more than WR's - Gilyard was going to have a tough shot anyway.

Maybe it's just because he sucks?

I think 86 is right....if you're not a starter, and you're a receiver, you'd better be able to contribute significantly on ST. Gilly is NOT a special teamer, IMO.
