I guess our strong safeties were lacking in OTAs. Seems like an odd time to sign someone.

FS: Charles Godfrey, Haruki Nakamura, Colin Jones, Melvin White
SS: Quintin Mikell, Mike Mitchell, DJ Campbell, Robert Lester

Might be forgetting someone but we're quickly compiling a decent amount of bad-average safeties and young guns. Which I suppose is an improvement on the terrible safeties we've had starting in previous years.

Mikell could step in and do what Nak was expected to do last year. I still would like to see us develop Lester

In my opinion he is an above average safety. I would love this move.

Probably only has a year or so left in the tank, hopefully he serves as a good bridge to the youngsters.

I love these kind of signings. Cheap veterans who fly under the radar and don't get signed until near training camp where they begin to become desperate for a deal. Mikell is still very much so an OK to solid player. Isn't the best in terms of pass defense but can step up and make plays in the box, which certainly would have been appreciated last year. Plus we could always throw Campbell out there on obvious passing days as he is a more athletic player who showed some as far as pass defense goes last season. Keep in mind the main reason Mikell was cut was due to, I believe, on schedule to make $3 million and $10 million over the next 2 seasons.

If we bring him in, a combination of Godfrey and Mikell at safety would not be too bothersome with our front seven. Only concern would still be our corners. Munnerlyn at nickel is the only one I have any faith in at all.

On a side note, it would be ridiculously awesome if the whole desperation act ended up applying for Seymour and we wound up signing him for relatively cheap. Unlikely as I assume he would just look to sign with Atlanta but still. Johnson, Seymour, Lotulelei, Edwards, Shorts, Alexander, and Hardy would be quite the defensive force...

Most teams do not do a whole lot of signing right now heading into camp, they usually see how younger/cheaper guys pan out before bringing in a vet. We will see a flurry of vets sign as players get injured or don't live up to their hype.
