If Trestman does indeed make a solid, quick-paced offense then the pressure on Webb will be cut in half. Last few years he was asked to block the best pass rushers for long plays, and he is no Orlando Pace. But in an offense where he has to make the initial punch and block for only 2-3 seconds, he should do well, especially if they can form a pocket for Jay to step up into (a luxury he has not had since his days in DEN). Webb hopefully takes full advantage of Kromer's tutelage.

I will say you are about on the money. But I will go out to say Garza plays too poorly and gets demoted to a back up, Slauson reverts back to C, and Mills steps up to play guard.

Our O-line by week 12
LT- Bushrod
LG- Long
C- Slauson
RG- Mills
RT- Webb

Webb only played 1 year of major college football so it has taken him a couple of years to improve.

But this is 4th year of playing serious competition, as if he had played 4 years at Texas, and he has gotten better every year and continues to improve.

I expect him to have a very solid year now that all eyes are off of him and I expect he will be around for awhile. Watch how much better Webb is when he is not being exposed by terrible offensive coaching and much better line play around him.

Why do you feel like all eyes are all of a sudden off of him? I think he still has a great deal of pressure on him, in particular since they drafted a guy to be the future there in Mills and that the staff brought back Jon Scott who has already played RT effectively for us (something Webb has not done). Best case scenario has Webb locking down the position for the next 8 years but the fact is that while he took big strides last year and was pretty solid most of the year that there is still a large population that still doesn't think highly of him and will be watching him as closely as ever, and until TC starts we won't know if any of those skeptics are on the coaching staff.

Gun to my head I'd probably say Webb starts at RT week 1, but really I don't even think he's a lock to make the team. I think after the way Scott finished last year at RT that he will get a very real opportunity to win the job, and if the does so and Mills holds his own then I think it's possible Webb doesn't make it on the 53 man. Mills is Trestman, Kromer and Emery's hand picked guy. Webb is a guy they all inherited. He's the only guy we have at OT who has no ties to the coaching staff or front office. I don't think that's insignificant.

Webb mad HUGE strides last year and was arguably our best OL (not that that means much, but still). When you watch the tape, outside of the GB game, Webb was better than average, and was actually GOOD. I am very interested in what happens in TC w/ him, b/c folks, his talent didn't decrease any.

That's the key right there. Webb is in a contract year and doesn't have Tice or Angelo around anymore. He will legitimately have to earn his job at RT.

Long term, at the least, here or elsewhere, I think he will be an average RT or a swing tackle.

Because all eyes will be on Jay, then Trestman than Bushrod and Bennett to see if they were worth the money and then on Long to see if this years 1st round pick does better than last seasons.

Webb being a totally average RT is a blip on the radar now with the new coach a new offense and a QB in a make of break year.

There is way too much faith in Mills reading through this thread. It was a good pick and Mills might be a future starter with the Bears in a few years. However there is a reason this guy fell to the bottom of the 5th round in a relatively weak draft. Before the senior bowl he was on nobody's radar.

Looking at a tentative depth chart which is subject to change he needs a rash of injuries to hit before making the field. Like two OT's or OG's getting hurt at the same time.

If either OT goes down Scott gets the call. Either OG its Brown and a toss up between Williams and Mills.

I would love to be wrong and Mills blows away everyone in training camp but how often do late 5th round picks do that? Its shouldn't be counted on.

JMarcus Webb is a project that will dazzle at times with his size and footwork ....he is fools gold @LT. He cannot play traditional RT either. He will backup Bushrod and Scott

Now if Treastman is able to generate an innovative pass game/offense , maybe Webb emerges as secondary pass rush specialist. If we remain traditional, Webb will back up both tackles and be out of the league soon

I don't see any way Mills beats out JWebb in TC. Offensive linemen that are drafted where he was are usually "project linemen" ... IMO he sits behind Webb and learns for a year or two, and then eventually I think we will see him at guard.

I also see no way Scott beats him out either. I think Webb is in position to have his best year yet.

LT Bushrod
LG Long
C Garza
RG Slauson
RT Webb

What is a traditional RT?

No one wants big maulers who cannot pass block at RT anymore. Webb is what teams look for a RT a guy who just does no have it at LT but has top level ability.
