Tanney is a former QB/captain of Monmouth and also spent a few year in the Arena League. For the past few years, he has been a manager at STATS LLC.

ChicagoBears.com wrote:
One example of situational football Tanney likely will study is short-yardage plays broken down by down-and-distance, location on the field, time remaining and score of the game. That information will help them decide whether to go for a first down or kick a field goal, for instance, on fourth-and-two at their opponent’s 14-yard-line with less than two minutes left in the first half.

As far as scouting, Tanney will add to the Bears’ existing scouting process by creating a composite evaluation from a player’s physical, psychological, intellectual and medical data, helping to determine where he is now and projecting where he’s going to be.

I love this move. Studies have shown over and over, people who use statistical models make better decisions in real life. People who use multiple models make even better decisions. I think data will dramatically change the way play calling and drafting decisions are made in the NFL, and I'm glad to see the Bears getting in on this trend.

Not that im denyin the validity, but you basically just said a group of statisticians think statisticians make better decisions. There is inherent bias, lol
