"You don’t have to look too far to see Chris Weidman has the exact skill set to beat Anderson Silva, and he’s also got it upstairs,” said Sonnen. “He wants this fight. He has a better top game, at least submission wise, than I do. I was able to have some success for several minutes with Anderson from that position. Weidman’s going to get on top, he needs this, he’s never tasted defeat. Let’s also understand, if Anderson Silva wins this fight, the debate ends—he is the best fighter of all time.”

That's an interesting quote. I think Weidman has a better shot than most think, but I still think Anderson will win. He hasn't really fought a young hungry fighter in a while so he could have some trouble especially if he comes in hurt or unfocussed.

As for the best fighter of all time part, I think if he is not there already beating Weidman won't solidify it. If he beats Weidman and then Jones everyone would consider him the best of all time.

+2

Jones is on his way, but right now Anderson's king.

I think hes the GOAT too, but it's definitely not consensus.

I just think beating Jones who will probably be GOAT when his career is over will solidify it. At least more than beating Weidman would.

I hope so.

I would love to see Jones get ktfo.

If Jones were 6' 2", and fought at MW, he'd still beat Silva. He's really, really good.

I'm a Jones and Silva fan so, on the night they fight, simply put, I'm a MMA fan. It's a win-win for me.

If Jones wins, he's on his way to GOAT status before he even hits his physical prime (scary). If Silva wins, he's the ageless wonder who took down the most dangerous threat to his status and solidifies himself 1000% as the GOAT.

Sergio Pettis knocked out Dillard Pegg in 51 seconds tonight. He's now 8-0 and only 19 years of age.

Wasn't he supposed to fight somebody pretty good? Either way, I agree. I hope he puts on enough weight to move up two BW at least though. Flyweight is so lame.

He was supposed to fight Jeff Curran initially.

Sergio is a baaaad dude. Way more quiet and chill than Anthony, but technically much better. Talking to Anthony few months back, and he said Sergio is gonna be much better than him. I could definitely see it.

BTW, I always forget we have an MMA thread on these forums. Mad

Sergio is expecting to move up in weight as he said the 125 cuts are getting to be too hard. He thinks 135 or even 145 (after he ages a bit) are his likely destinations.

If Silva was a few years younger, I would take him to beat Jones.

Being so young, it's gonna be exciting following his career. He could be one of the faces of the UFC if everything goes well. Now if only Anthony could stay healthy.

Apparently Jones has signed a contract to fight Gustafson, per his twitter. Wonder when it will be.
