This Almonte kid for the Yankees just seems like a player who will energize our offense.

And he just got his first Homerun... 4 for 5 with a HR. Not a bad way to start his career. Career batting average .800 Wink

About damn time he got playing time, Wells suuuuuuuuucks. Love that Almonte looks good so far, not too jumpy.

Almonte is one of my Favorite Yankee Prospects. Now that he is finally getting his chance he is going to shine and he is here to stay!!

.790 OPS in AAA. Barely over that in AA last year. Not on anyone's radar.

Don't get why anyone would think he would be anything more than a 4th OF'er.

He's got pretty average tools and doesn't walk that well. Not too bad of a hitter. Could be solid in Yankee Stadium, plus Wells is an offensive sinkhole so Almonte can at least provide something.

When Dustin Ackley got called up and was on his super hot start, I had an argument with one of the Mariners fanboys who said he'd 'easily be worth 14+ WAR in his first 4 seasons', especially since he was worth 2.5ish in his first 200 PA's. I said that was ridiculous.

Anyways...

I wouldn't call his tools average at all. This is a guy who hit 21 homers and stole 15 bases in 106 games last season. That's 30/20 in a full big league season. He's also got an above average arm, solid/average outfield range, and the ability to play all three outfield positions. I think there's always been and always will be the potential for Almonte to develop into a regular big league player. He's just one of the guys who probably develops into nothing because his approach at the plate is not refined.

That being said, it's encouraging to see him playing fairly well (.359 wOBA and a 117 wRC+ so far at Scranton which isn't bad at all) on his first exposure to AAA and MLB this spring. This is a guy who historically stuggles to adjust to new levels so to see him finally walking and playing about as well as he ever has at new, advanced levels is nice. Not that I actually think he has long term value. But this team is really playing horribly right now and I don't mind giving someone with some upside a chance.

Love how he conveniently left that part of the argument out. Laughing

Rangers have won 4 of 5 since Wash ripped into the team in a team meeting. Very Happy

9 in a row in SF baby....
This team just got Stanton, LoMo, Eolvaldi, Turner back, not the same pitiful April Marlins.

#Cousinscurse

But seriously the Fish lineup is legit with their crew back. We were lucky to win that series...

I remember when the Angels would do the same thing after Scioscia would rip into them. Now he'll rip into them, and they'll continue on the same path of losing.
