Positives:

1) Surprisingly good in pass pro against "big guys" - he can and has erased bigger guys like Terrell Suggs and Jared Allen from the game

2) Has issues with the flexible, explosive pass rushers like Clay Matthews and Aldon Smith

3) Is not a movement run blocker, he's a wall-off blocker

4) Rarely makes mental errors, very smart player

5) Keep him motivated and he is at his best. He was the Steelers' most consistent OL the last 2 seasons

Bottom line - Philip Rivers should be quite happy about this move. Max isn't an All Pro and will never deserve to be, but he is a very steady presence at LT and probably the best you've had (outside of the short stint when headcase gave a crap about football) since McNeil was healthy

This is a pretty good signing for you, especially since it's a 1-year contract. Max has worked hard on his conditioning the last few years and last season was the best I've seen him. Steelers fans are unhappy about this move for the most part because we're rather wary of who we have (Gilbert and Adams) being unproven, and Max has proven himself time and again to be a steady guy at LT.

Maybe I'm being optimistic too early but this new G.M. Tom Telesco is night and day compared to A.J. Smith. Don't get me wrong AJ made some great draft picks early on with the Chargers but eventually he let his pride get in the way on some situations that completely tore the team up and the reason for the bad results the past 3 seasons. Tom had little to work with this off-season as far as salary cap but he made some good draft choices on paper and free agent pickups to fill in some holes that is desperately needed on this team. Imagine when he clears cap space for the future and has more to work with. I'm stoked on getting Matt Starks and Dwight Freeney. Who knows if they both can pan out but they're certainly a upgrade to whoever was going to start in their positions originally.

Way too early to say anything other then AJ wasn't the guy that would make us a champion. Telesco has done well so far on paper but lets be real, it wasn't like we were really going to get worse.

I want to see it on the field. We'll see what ye club mentality is the first time we get behind. Is this a team that folds or will Telesco and McCoy install a sense of pride and fighting spirit. On paper we are the underdogs going into this season. I want to see how scrappy we are. It will be interesting to watch.

Well, I was wrong... they were serious about signing Starks.

So... we have depth at OT now. How about that?

I admit i'm a bit more optimistic for the coming season than I was before. I mean i'm pretty certain the Chargers aren't going to win the AFCW unless Manning's body falls apart on him or something, but at least they're trying to be competitve. Even if Starks is just A Guy it's still better than Gutless Gaither and Harris*.

*Though I have way more sympathy for him than most

Rivers should feel a lot more comfortable now that Fluker and Starks will line up at the tackle spots. Good move by you guys Imo. Wish Oak would've made an attempt at him...

I hate to admit but I think you guys could field a really good o line. And you've got a lot of depth with a lot of experience. I don't think youre far off Denver for best line in the division...

I'm a little intrigued by our two LT signings. I think both can be very good options here. I know the past few years they have looked pedestrian at best but hear me out. Both of these guys were blocking for arguably the two hardest QB's to block for. Big Ben and Vick never sat in the pocket where their Tackles would know where they were so blocking for those guys is alot harder than for your prototypical pocket passer. I think Starks and even Dunlap will be able to play the position and look way better than the last few years. Not to mention that they have IMO some very good offensive coaches. Starks is getting old and may only have 1-2 good years left but I think that thats what the Chargers are planning for. Dunlap is a wild card, but I'd like to see him block when he knows where his QB is at.
