Looked to be a pretty damn good slot WR with Manning, but those concussions were brutal.

Yeah, I thought he was a really talented up and coming slot receiver, but those concussions really killed his career. He had talent, obviously, but it just feels like even if we signed him, it would only be a matter of games before he was down with another concussion. If it was just a single one, okay, but I think he's had like 3 or 4. Not really sure why Collie but not Brandon Lloyd, though Collie definitely has the hands to catch Kaep's fastballs (Lloyd is the only other free agent who's hands I trust the majority of time to be able to catch those lasers).

Collie's concussed head would only have to hold up until december, when Crabtree returns (if he does at all)... or maybe get him just for the first few weeks, until both Kyle Williams and Mario are fully healthy.

Having him in camp would be a good thing, in my opinion. He surely has good things to teach our young receivers.

See, I don't believe that because I don't think that there's any way Crabtree comes back and is even nearly "100%" or the receiver we lost last year. Suggs is a good example and his was only a partial tear; and I would argue that this type of injury is far more detrimental to crabtree, who as he is not a burner, has to rely much more on his cutting and starting and stopping. I have no doubt that he will be back this year and playing in games, but I just can't believe that we will see the real Michael Crabtree back until 2014.

Lloyd probably still thinks of himself as a superstar and holds his value higher than any GM is willing to pay. That's the only reason I can think of as to why he's still unsigned. With as little cap room as we have left, I can't see us bringing in Lloyd. Collie is probably a vet minimum type of guy, which is why he got the call.

EDIT- Apparently Collie left the 49ers facility without a contract today. Oh well. I'm not that worried. One of our young guys will step up.

Lloyd would be a nice addition from a skills perspective, but he doesn't have the kind of personality our coaches are likely to want on the team.

Not a huge fan of this move. Don't see what he would provide that we wouldn't already have with Boldin/Jenkins/Patton/Williams/Manningham.

In my opinion, it would only be an insurance until Mario is ready to go.

Is Brett Swain available?

Collie seriously needs to retire, there's more to life than football. I understand he's gotten clearance, but it's clearly an issue with him.

this was my reaction as well. I think it'd be a fine signing, but collie should stop playing for his own sake.
