The Detroit Lions will host defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis on a free agent visit this week, according to ESPN.

Ellis, the seventh overall pick in the 2008 draft, played his first five NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints, where he started all 70 games he played but amassed just 12.5 sacks.

Wouldn't hurt at this point. Be tough pressed to find someone say he won't be a solid back up.

Nice depth. I would be happy if we signed him.

I have a feeling that he will end up a patriot when all is said and done. They can offer more playing time and prob a lil more money than we can. After we reportedly gave newly aquired rb owens a 2 yr 2.5 mil contract with 250,00 roster bonus that leaves us with pennies to spend not to mention the price we payed for our new "vet" gaurd.

Ellis probably has better options. He's obviously not the player the Saints thought they'd be getting with the #7 pick, but he's still got 70 starts under his belt and considering we have Suh and Fairley he'd be a relative afterthought here. He can get both a better paycheck and more snaps on some other team.

If we've got room for him, though, I'd all for it.

Well, that's unfortunate.

He would have been a nice depth signing.
