Wow. Bills traded LB Kevin Sheppard to Colts for LB Jerry Hughes. Rare young player-for-player deal.

Not surprised at all, just mentioned yesterday I wouldn't be surprised to see he or Donald Brown cut. The logjam at OLB with the additions of Walden and now Werner made this possible. I'm not sure of Sheppard's contract status beyond this year but both Angerer and Connor might not be back next year if be has a little time left.

I almost feel bad for the Bills. I loved Hughes coming out but he was a big disappointment in his time here. I hope he turns it around.

Sheppard seems like a hard nosed ILB that will provide great depth for us since our current ILB can't seem to stay healthy for an entire season.

I personally dislike Jerry Hughes as much as the next guy, but hopefully for Buffalo he can use the change of scenery. As mentioned previously, I really think he was going to be cut anyways, and it is nice to receive a guy in return who can be utilized in the "thumper" role. I was really pissed to see Fokou go to the Titans, but Sheppard will definitely a solid replacement in his role.

Even though our ILB core isn't the flashiest, I am really pleased with the depth we have at the position. Can't wait to see the development of Conner next year, as he showed many flashes of solid play throughout the year.

According to spotrac.com the Colts took a $1.5 mill cap pen for trading Hughes and Sheppard's cap number is $664 K. He is under contract through 2014 like Hughes was.

Who wants to bet Werner is wearing #92 this year Laughing

What number will Sheppard wear? Who's wearing 55 right now?

Lots of front 7 cuts coming up.

When we drafted Werner I was looking at jersey #s and there were no available #s in the 50s or 90s. One of our LBs, Jake Killeen, is assigned 49 and 48 is available. So maybe they'll have him wear that one until after roster cuts happen.

Hughes was a big time disappointment for this team, let's see if Sheppard fares any better.

Im pretty excited for this move! I always liked Sheppard at LSU(even though I hate LSU), happy for a change. Even happier to see another Polian player out the door!

New team, new mentality and I love it!

Sheppard is taking first team snaps next to Freeman with a healthy Conner on the second team. Playing well.

interestingly enough after seeing your post I went to Indy Star and read an article by Phil B about OTAs and he mentions this but in the context of Shepherd is starting while Angerer recovers from his second foot surgery suggesting that by the time training camp starts Angerer will be starting.
