What do I mean by longest tenured? Well I don't mean players who've been in the league the longest. I mean players who have been with their respective ball club the longest. So my apologies to one of my most favorite NFL players Peyton Manning, you don't qualify.

With the recent retirements of Jason Hansen, Ray Lewis and Donald Driver 3 of the 5 longest tenured players left the NFL this offseason (I again apologize if I missed someone) . So who takes their place? Would you believe a LS, Chicago's Patrick Mannelly who is also by the way the last player left in the league to be acquired by his ballclub prior to the 2000 season.

Backstory: As some of you might know from venturing into the Colts forum. Every year I sticky a thread for that years team including a depth chart and another item titled, "How They Were Built" (in full disclosure the idea was borrowed from Packers.com) It lists every player and how they were acquired whether via draft, trade, free agency or waivers. Sometime last year I was thinking about doing the same thing for the entire league (top 25 not the full league, silly) but seeing as it is quite the undertaking I decided to wait until after free agency so that I had a better idea which players; who were clearly not resigning with their previous ballclub, were evident.

So here we go the 25 Longest Tenured NFL Players
1. 1998 Chicago Bear LS Patrick Mannelly FA
2. 2000 Oakland Raider K Sebastian Janikowski D1
3. 2000 Jacksonville Jaguar OC Brad Meester D2
4. 2000 New England Patriot QB Tom Brady D6
5. 2000 San Francisco 49er LS Brian Jennings D7
6. 2001 Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne D1
7. 2001 Detroit Lions OC Dominic Raiola D2
8. 2001 Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith D3
9. 2002 Pittsburgh Steeler DE Brett Kiesel D7
10. 2003 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson D1 #3
11. 2003 Minnesota Vikings DT Kevin Williams D1 #9
12. 2003 Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs D1 #10
13. 2003 Pittsburgh Steelers S Troy Polamalu D1 #16
14. 2003 Chicago Bears CB Charles Tillman D2
15. 2003 Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs D3 #68
16. 2003 Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten D3 #69
17. 2003 Pittsburgh Steelers CB Ike Taylor D4
18. 2003 Indianapolis Coits LB Robert Mathis D5 #138
19. 2003 San Diego Chargers P Mike Scifres D5 #149
20. 2003 New York Giants OT David Diehl D5 #160

21. 2003 Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo FA
22. 2003 San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates FA

23. 2004 Denver Broncos CB Champ Bailey Tr-Wash
24. 2004 New York Giants QB Eli Manning Tr-San D D1#1

25. 2004 Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald D1 #3

The Breakdown
20 - via draft
2 - trade
3 - Free Agents (I going to make a wild assumption that the only 2 FAs on this list are UDFAs but I can't say I know Mannelly's situation for sure like I know Romo.
I only listed a players overall draft pick number if he wasn't the only player drafted in that particular round that particular year.

Just missing the cut: Chargers QB Phillip Rivers, Steelers QB Ben Roesthlisberger, Saints DE Will Smith and Patriots DT Vince Wilfork

And by the off chance I missed someone please let me know.

It's too bad Jason Hanson retired after last season.

He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1992 draft and spent his entire career with the Lions (21 Seasons) before retiring after last season. I doubt we'll see that again for a long time, and maybe never again with the way FA works now.

This is one of the reasons why I really wanted to do this list last year,

Rian Lindell has been kicking for the Buffalo Bills since 2003. Although there's good odds he released in favor of Dustin Hopkins to save some cash when it comes time to cut down the roster.

Didn't even realize Rodgers was our most tenured player. Seems like it was not to long ago he was still our young back up.
