Not sure why people get excited about signing picks first. Not like it makes a real difference whether you sign them right away or last minute. It always gets done in the end.

Let the Lions celebrate something! Mad

Easy. More time in camps. More reps. Better prepared to start year. Ansah needs all the dang reps he can get.

i think he means as long as they sign before camp starts it doesnt matter

Which is wrong. He just got a lot of work in at the rookie mini camp. Like I said he needs EVERY rep he can get.

You don't need to be under contract to participate in rookie mini camp

I know I wouldn't risk getting some freak injury before I had signed a contract.

Exactly. A lot have not in the past just because of this reason. It would be dumb for them to risk everything with nothing in place

Not that there's anything to even worry about these days in the first place, but looking over the signings, odds on Manuel being the next draft pick signed?

With the rate of frequency of hold outs for my team; I get a bit excited when I hear our guy signed the contract.

yeah but him signing early doesnt give him extra reps in any way Confused Eric Reid hasnt signed yet but I betcha he has nearly as many reps as ziggy does Neutral Im confused as to why signing early give him a leg up, as you suggest

The players who dont participate in rookie camps because they havent signed the dotted line are probably not going far in the NFL, if that is their mindset. Football is a game where you cannot play to not get injured. like you said getting reps is important so why waste the only camp where there are less people there (less people = more reps)

Plus its with no pads or anything so the chances of getting hurt are very slim. I know that a lot of severe injuries have occurred during non contact drills but those could happen if you are just working out trying to get into shape (which is a big part of what the rookie camp does, get players used to the tempo of practice). So the difference in injury risk between not going and going is minimal to say the least, especially if that player intends on being in shape come training camp.

If a draft pick doesnt go to rookie minicamp for any reason other than they are required to complete graduation ceremonies etc, it is a major red flag in my eyes. it would most certainly look bad to the coaches, which can really set a rookie back if it ultimately costs them PT

so please explain why signing early matters? I would be willing to bet that all 32 first round picks participated in rookie camps, even though all 32 arent signed

I don't think any Raiders rookie has held out despite not signing. Anyone know of any rookies who have?
