His East-West Shrine game ranking/scouting report:

Quote:
Safeties:
1- Cooper Taylor, Richmond- Taylor was a player I hadnít seen at all coming in and I was anticipating him being a stiff, oversized safety that wasnít good in coverage. I am happy to admit I was completely wrong and that Taylor showed good hips, impressive range and a good feel for the safety position. Heís got a great combination of size and athleticism and I think he warrants top 100 consideration based on what I saw from him this week.

I wrote positives about Richmond safety Cooper Taylor every day, he was consistently one of the most impressive players on the field. At 6í4Ē and a solid 229 pounds, Taylor has incredible size for a safety but he is not stiff; he demonstrated the ability to quickly change direction with fluid hips and fairly loose ankles. He is very comfortable and confident in zone coverage situations. The biggest issue for Taylor is the reason why he left Georgia Tech, where he started as a highly recruited true freshman. He has a heart condition that required surgery. There should be no reason for his medical evaluation to go poorly, but itís still something that has to be factored in. Taylor is a viable 3rd round talent but the medical issues and limitations in man coverage, plus coming from a FCS program, could drop him into the 4th or perhaps the fifth round.

Cooper Taylor, S, Richmond
Another small schooler on the East roster, Taylor drew praise all week from coaches. The 6í4, 230+ pound long and well-built safety showed the range, explosive cuts, and read/react ability to intrigue as a strong safety who can pick-up RBs/TEs well at the next level. Thatís a skill set in high demand, and if Taylorís medicals check out, he could move into the mid to high round discussion.

Im pretty excited for this pick. If he has good hips, he can be a perfect guy who can matchup with these tight ends.

With Rolle, Brown, Hill and now Cooper, I think this spells the end of Tyler Sash.

Sash and Mundy will probably battle for 1 roster spot. We carried 5 safeties in 2011 when you include Derrick Martin.

I love this pick, this pick and Moore are my two favorite picks of the draft.

Don't forget about TT. There's a chance he could move to safety.

sounds alot like a better version of Taylor Mays, who I admittedly wanted a few years back.
