Maybe it was a coincidence Phillips got signed during the draft but my theory is that Denver might of been targeting a de.Either Werner or a trade up for Ansah of he fell far enough. Any thoughts?

I think we were high on Jones.

Had Jones and Sly Williams both been available Denver would have still taken Williams because IMO Denver went into the draft wanting more push from the center of the line. We have players to rush from the outside but we haven't been able to put pressure up the middle in a while if ever!

I heard they were comfortable with Williams, Jones, and Rhodes. When Jones and Rhodes were gone they pounced on Williams. If all three were gone they likely would have traded out of the pick.

Elway said they didn't do a single mock that had Williams falling to them. If that is true the they got a guy that was very high on their board. I think a DE was considered a great need, but Williams was to good to pass up.

I agree with the sentiment that they had Datone Jones in their sights before GB took him. Not only did Elway bring up his name as a possiblilty at #28, but Jones very much fits personality-wise with the types of players drafted this year. Both high-round picks, Sly and Montee, are very well spoken and humble individuals who a dedicated to the game of football. Datone Jones fits that profile very well, so I would be willing to bet he was high on their draft board.

Heard they put an offer out to Freeney, gave him a 1pm deadline and then signed Phillips instead when the deadline passed

This sounds very familiar what is up with players failing to make dead lines. The only player we will ever wait on is pfm.
