As the sample size grows for Phil Emery I think we can start to define his style a little more.

-NO ONE knows what Phil Emery is thinking or what he will do.
-He is going to put out a ton of smoke signals.
-He is going to draft high potential players early.
-He is going to reach a little to get better potential and athletic ability.
-He values athletic ability and testing plays into the evaluation more than we think.
-He is not scared by off field issues.

A few other things I've realized Emery looks for in a first round pick is an ability to provide flexibility in space. Emery doesn't seem to choose the player who is best at what he does, but rather he seems to choose a player who can do a variety of things pretty well in a variety of places. In the first round it seems to be about creating match ups in space with Emery.

Welcome (back) to the board. Good to know I'm not the only one who created an account and didn't start posting on it until years later. The only step that's left for you is to become obsessed and post regularly.

He's a risk taker plain and simple. I hope this works out for us.

I am more comforted by his risk taking because we now how thorough and prepared he is.

I can only imagine how in depth the work up on Long was.

Exactly this. Rhetorically - You don't really imagine the most meticulous man in football had thought "we can't trade back if he's still on the board" without absolute faith in his scouting methods and judgement, do you?

Reminds me of another hall of fame to be coach..Bill Belichick. who excells at finding players that can be versatile, and look at the results. A contender every year.(Disclaimer:Im not a huge fan of bill but I cant deny the results)
