A couple of days ago the Bills hosted free agent LB Karlos Dansby for a visit at One Bills Drive. Bills GM Buddy Nix provided an update after the visit concluded without a contract signing.
He had a good visit, Nix told Buffalobills.com. We liked him. Its still ongoing. Its not dead, but its not done either.
Dansby would add a veteran presence to what is largely a young linebacking corps for the Bills. A 10-year vet, Dansby is coming off a career season in which he led the Dolphins with a career-high 134 tackles.

It's not like teams are blowing up his phone with calls, he'll come here because nobody wants to pay him what he think's he's worth and TBH, I don't think even we will either.

the most productive player on the miami dolphins last year had 134 tackles and is good against the run. the bills have no one so i think the bills will overpay what he should get paid but under what he wants to get paid. Plus i think this could be a ploy for the bills draft as well.

Nix said as of now they'll still talk to him but I don't feel optimistic about us signing him now. Nix seems to feel drafting Alonso has changed things. It may have, but still, with the Sheppard trade, who plays ILB for us in our hybrid? Aside from Alonso we currently have no one else who is starting caliber inside and Alonso is a rookie. Hughes is more of a DE/OLB.

We needed Dansby before Sheppard was traded and after he was today we could use Dansby now even more. Would still be the best LB we'd have.

I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't get him signed. He's exactly what the Bills need even now after the draft. He'd make us much better. He needs to be signed assuming the money isn't where the problem lies.

No from what I heard yesterday on sirius Buddy Nix said they have the 90 player roster and will still be looking at FA and decide if there is any still out there that can upgrade the roster. 3 players I think the bills should look to sign are Karlos, Brian Scott, and/or Brandon Moore OG. I think those could add depth as well as possible day 1 contributors.

You mean Bart Scott, I presume?

It doesn't seem like we'll be signing Dansby soon but if he's still out there later in the summer I want him. I'd be pretty burned if some other team eventually signs him because the Bills couldn't get it done. He'll get signed, it's just a matter of where and when.

I also wouldn't mind the Bills looking at a veteran CB still in addition to the players you suggested. Too bad Jammer's getting older or he'd be nice. Still wouldn't mind him for a year or two.

Well so much for that...

Guess we go into the season with Kiko as our starter. Not sure how I feel about that.

Dansby is on his way out but it would have been nice to see him here for veteran leadership.

I'm ok with Kiko Alonso and Bradham at ILB. Both are very athletic.

The upside is there but still not convinced.. This looks like weakest spot on defense with Bradham and Alonso I still see a vet coming in

Not happy about Dansby seemingly leaving town without a contract. Although he is reportedly looking for a multi-year contract. Maybe that's what steered the Bills away? Still, I have to believe it more to be because of money. They said he had a good workout here and would keep him in mind and the guy's only 31. No reason he shouldn't be able to start for at least two more seasons in this league.

Seems like a stupid move to not sign him despite the drafting of Alonso. Unless it was a money thing, I have no idea why we passed. I don't think going in with Alonso and Bradham is the smartest idea.
