Let's say Tavon Austin is there at 15, and we've traded Ivory for the Jets' 4th rounder. What if we trade #15 and our 4th to Minnesota for their 2 1st rounders? Then we trade our 3rd and 5th to move into the later portion of the 2nd round. With all this activity, we maintain the Jets 4th round pick.

The result...
Round 1a. Alec Ogletree ILB Georgia
Round 1b. Datone Jones DE UCLA
Round 2. Matt Elam SS Florida
Round 4. Chris Faulk OT LSU
Round 6. Tyrann Mathieu DB LSU

first round points may not add up, but teams would drool at the opportunity for Austin

Don't know how realistic the trades are, but I love all the players. You really think Mathieu will be there in the 6th?

All the scouts are saying he will go in the 3rd. Rolling Eyes

Trades are so unrealistic also. A 4th and 6 spots for 2 1st rounders? Impossible.

I don't like it.. Last time I check, we are switching schemes. So we need help/competion at just about every position on defense. A dream scenario would be we trade 1st round pick and Jabari Greer for they 1st, 2nd and 6th round pick. Then we trade Chris Ivory for the Jets 4th and David Hawthrone for the Bengals 5th.

1st. Xavier Rhodes CB Florida State
2nd. Alec Ogletree ILB Georgia
3rd. DaRick Rogers WR Tennesse Tech
4th. TJ McDonald FS/SS Southern Cal
4th. Zaviar Gooden ILB Missouri
5th. Gavin Escobar TE San Deigo State
5th. Michael Buchanan OLB Illinois
6th. Sanders Cummings CB Georgia
6th. William Gholston DE Michigan State

Would anybody be open to the idea of trading out of the 1st round completely? I mean, if we were to trade back once to say the 18-25 range we would likely get the say talent level prospect at the top of the 2nd round than we would in the late 20's. Another trade would garner more picks now and maybe in the future.

So say the Saints trade the 15th pick, move back to say 27 (Texans) then trade again and move out of round 1 all together to a team looking to come up and secure a quarterback from the top of round 2.

I think prospects like Jamie Collins, Jonathan Hankins, Matt Elam, Jonathan Jenkins, Datone Jones, Kawann Short, Eric Reid and others could all still be had at the top of the 2nd.

Just a thought... I say if were willing to trade the 15th pick, we should maybe look to trade again because the talent level in this draft is pretty close between 25-50.

Doesn't New Orleans have enough thugs as it is?

Oh, I got ya... wasn't sure where he was going with that.

I do agree, I mean I LOVE Ogleree on the field but the sad fact is that some of these guys just never get it right. Look at R. McClain, arrested again after signing with Ravens.

What a waste, Saints need to be 100% sure on this 15th pick both on the field and off. Need a guy that will be a solid player for us for the next 8 years.

I will weigh in with my fantasy. The Saints trade with St. Louis so that they can get their safety, wide receiver, offensive lineman whatever by bracketing picks 15 and 16 and get pick #75 which is close to their #78. The Saints get pick 22, 46 and 149.
Then, Belichick wants Robert Woods at #22 and thinks Minnesota will take him. So, we trade down to #29 and pick up their third round pick, #93.
Now here is where it gets interesting. The Saints decide they love Terron Armstead enough to take him at #29 and lock him up for five years, (only 1st rounders get that long of a contract). And the draft goes like this:
#29 Terron Armstead OT
#46 Jamie Collins OLB
#93 J. J. Wilcox or Bacarri Rambo SS (prefer Wilcox)
#109 A. J. Klein ILB
#144 Nicholas Williams DT
#149 Cody Davis FS
#183 Joseph Fauria TE

Other than Rambo, there are no known thugs and some of these are from small schools such as Arkansas Pine Bluff, Georgia Southern, and Samford. The Saints have done well with players from smaller programs.
Collins - USM, Klein - Iowa St. , Davis - Texas Tech, and Fauria is UCLA. All of our needs are adressed and free agents will compete for roster spots as well. After signing Wallace, I think the Saints do not spend a pick this year on QB, but I do think Colby Cameron from La Tech would be a good fit as a free agent.

I don't see Collins making it to pick 46. Probably wont even make it out of the 1st.
