Could be a very nice addition as coverage LB, he started a few games for Patrick Willis in 2011 and was outstanding... was an ILB for the 49ers.

He didn't see a lot of playing time because the 49ers rarely if at all rotate their starters during games.

Laughing of course.

I'm not impressed with his instincts, he gets caught moving in the wrong direction too often in coverage for my liking.

He's OK and would definitely be an upgrade over Rivera/Tarpinian but IMO he wasn't as good as some 49ers fans (and others) were making him out to be a couple of years ago. He's a nice spot starting option and backup, not the starter in need of a real opportunity that some think.

He wasn't even a starter at Ohio State.

Am I missing something? If we are looking at him it is not as a starter.

Yeah, he will be a role player if the Patriots sign him, would probably be the best coverage LB out of the group, although he isn't great in coverage, he will still be the best option.

To be honest, I think Mayo might be better than Grant in coverage. At worst, they're pretty similar.

They need a backup who isn't purely special teams fodder, so I'm all for giving Grant a try.

Yep, he was active to all 16 games despite not been used much on defense.
