Don't expect #Bills safety Jairus Byrd to show up at voluntary conditioning workouts Tuesday, absent a long-term deal. Hasn't signed tag yet

We'll get the deal done.

He's our best player.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean we'll get a deal done. We are the Buffalo Bills, after all. Where players we draft play well so that they can make better money somewhere else.

Cant take reports like this seriously when the first two words are "dont expect", sounds a lot like an opinion.

So what its VOLUNTARY workouts. Nothing to see here. Players miss voluntary workouts all the time.

Nothing big just making sure he doesnt get injured during that since he isnt covered. Talks have begun on a longterm solution but who is to say he is interested in staying in Buffalo. Hopefully he will stay

If I were him I wouldn't show up either.

He deserves the long term contract and we NEED to get him signed.

It would be really nice to keep a good player past his rookie contract.

Agreed he is way to important of a piece to let walk with how young the secondary is I would like to see this group grow together. SHOW HIM THE MONEY.

i've liked Buddy for being candid, even if he (and i don't mean this to come out negatively) sounds like a stupid moronic idiot sometimes: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/16/buddy-nix-hasnt-given-jairus-byrd-much-thought/

sure, Buddy, the draft is in a couple of days so you should be finishing up your reports from the scouting department, making some calls (being sure that you aren't the victim of a hoax), and preparation for draft day should be the focus. i agree. at the same time, an effort to at least seem somewhat committed to keeping your best defensive player is not the worst idea ever.

this dude is a trip. is there anyway he could stay on to handle all the press conferences if he retires?

Fun facts courtesy of Howard Simon:
  • His 18 INT's in the four years since he entered the NFL is third best
  • Byrd is the only Bills draft pick since 2002 who ended up being voted to the Pro Bowl

When was the last time the defense had a play maker like Byrd, Whaley needs to get him signed long term ASAP.

It should be priority #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5.

Very few outside of Buffalo are saying the Bills had a really good draft.

Really? I've seen almost everyone question the Manuel pick, but i've also seen almost every "expert" say they loved our draft and it all depends on EJ.
