The interview seemed a bit droll and he didnt seem to be articulate or well spoken.

When asked if he wants to return, it was not a clear cut YES. It took him a moment to get to that. So its hard to say where his head is at, but after seeing this video and all of the things that have come up about the Virginia traffic tickets, I still think that it is time to move on from Davis.

Give me Gavin Escobar from San Diego State.

I think we dont need to resign davis or draft a TE. Watch DeAngelo Peterson play really good and Niles and Logan are serviceable.

I think we'd be just fine at TE if we went with the group we had last year that helped get us 7 wins in a row and a home playoff game and a late round pick to develop like Furstenberg or Stoneburner etc, etc

Like I said in the other thread, Chris Russell is reporting how much the team likes DeAngelo Peterson, we could still bring back Cooley as a reserve, Paulsen is a better blocker for our run game than Fred and Paulsen was a Consistent receiver. From what I hear they still believe in Niles Paul as a tight end and believe he will improve in his 2nd year at the position.

I'm not saying don't draft a tight end but I don't see us taking a tight end in round 2 or 3 like Escobar when we have guys who played well for us there in Davis' absence last year and we all know we have greater needs in the secondary than at tight end.

I'm surprised none of you mentioned how high he looked. Laughing I'm surprised you guys don't try to sign him. He can come on the cheap and he's pretty good. I'd like the Niners to give him a shot.

Well I think I was trying to be subtle about his high looking demeanor. That being said, while he is a playmaker, he may be too much in price and there is another TE on our roster that our FO seems to be high on. LOL.

DeAngelo Peterson.

If the Niners signed him, Davis and Davis Law Firm of TE's?

i don't see how the 49ers are going to be able to sign Davis to a deal he seems to want. You all just took on Anquan Boldin's large salary and you couldn't keep Dashon Goldson because of the contract he got from Tampa, which seemed to be out of your price range.

I could be wrong but it doesn't seem like either of our teams have the money to offer Fred what the bills and jets may be able to.

He took a pretty big hair cut to do it too:

2012 - 1 year deal, $5.4M fully guaranteed
2013 - 1 year deal, $3.75M total contract ($1.0M salary, $1.5M signing bonus; $1.25M extra available in incentives)

To be honest, I kind of like this. One of three things happens:
1. He plays well, and re-signs with the team long term [my worst case]
2. He plays well, but refuses to re-sign because of a chip on his shoulder, which should hopefully lead to 2014 compensatory picks. [my best case]
3. He plays poorly, and he's let go. [oh well]

Free agents that signed this offseason (2013) will turn into possible compensatory picks in the following offseason (2014). Therefore, if Davis signs a large contract elsewhere next offseason, we'll get a compensatory selection in 2015.

True true. Hit the wrong number. Still, that's the best case in my opinion: he signs a big deal somewhere else and we get a 2015 third or fourth in exchange. Wink
