I like the signing of Campbell. Good backup and spot starter if weeden gets hurt or craps the bed. He will give weeden some starting competition but i really dont see him winning the job.

What are the odds that we draft a QB this year? Its hard to think whether this regime wants to bring in their guy and if so he he in this class. There are so many variable that we don't know to see whether its the best move to bring in a QB this year. How much faith do they have in Weeden and what role do they see Jason Campbell playing alot of tough questions.

Odds are high.

Solid signing. I've always liked Campbell and thought he was better than he's given credit for. I definitely don't expect him to start, but he's a good backup and is capable if the starter goes down with an injury.

"Offset" is in regards to cash paid to players, not cap space.

If the contract has no offset language, the player can collect salaries from both teams. Double-dipping, so to speak.

Referring to if he is cut? If so, yeah I get it.

Otherwise,

I'm sorry if I'm not understanding something, but if we traded Weeden to the Bears there is no way both teams would have to pay him his yearly salary, that just doesn't make sense.

It does if you consider that he already got his big money.

Ahhhh...

Like we are responsible for the bonus money and the team we would trade him to would pay his regular yearly salary.

That makes sense, technically he would be receiving money from two teams, it would just equal the same amount to him as if he were still with the Browns.

Not sure about the total amount.

Pretty sure though that given his salary this year ($750,000), it would be chump change even if he were getting it from both teams.

The money Campbell got (3.75 mil over two years) tells me he is going to be a backup. You don't sign a starting quarterback to that kind of a contract.

if he has the kind of attitude, I would really love to draft a raw QB. With Campbell he would be the #2 so the rookie wont see any PT (hopefully) and Campbell could help him out
