John Elway doesn't draft based on needs. He chooses the BPA on the Broncos draft board.

Elvis talking about leaving Denver at his Ravens introduction press conference:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/baltimore-ravens/0ap2000000154000/Dumervil-No-ill-will-towards-Broncos

I wonder...
Did Elvis feel "unwanted" in Denver because he became second fiddle to Von? Before Miller, Elvis was the sack guy who the defensive coordinator's schemes (possibly) were designed for freeing up to get to the QB. Last year he was a complementary piece - a clean up guy. It was the Von show. He even saw his franchise record for single season sacks get broken by the wonderboy.

I'm not basing this thought on anything, just thinking about what pushed Elvis away. I never got the sense that Elvis was an ego-driven guy, but why would he think he was "unwanted" in Denver?

My bet: a reduced role combined with reduced pay gave Elvis that feeling.

Very fair then. My bad on that one. But there is still only one REAL #58 in the NFL. Wink

Would have been funny if he had said that! I wish he had Twitter...

Deary me, Elvis.

Nothing to do with the extra money Baltimore were offering you then?

Even with a few days having passed, I cannot not interpret that whole Elvis/Broncos episode in a way that, yes, despite all its dynamics, it only got this far because Dumervil did not want to stay in Denver and wanted to leave a huge skunk like stain all over the doves of the valley. Add his comments from the press conference and one can notice subliminal motives. I really hope we embarrass him on the field. Clady is just the sort of remedy for pass rushers like Dumervil, so let's pancake him a few times, drive him away from the action into no-man's-land. Let's pound it up his side with McGahee before he fumbles again. Attack him, attack him, attack him.

Not if Klis is correct:

"Most agents and executives within the industry would say the Broncos offered a slightly better deal because they had more unconditional guaranteed money and a better three-year average. The escalators for both the Ravens and Broncos were built around a 12-sack season."
