Despite being the forgotten man last season, apparently TE Daniel Fells is in Patriots plans: paid him a $300k roster bonus yesterday

Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Jake Ballard, Michael Hoomanawanui, Brad Herman and Daniel Fells... did we really need to pay him a $300k roster bonus to keep him around?

The guy was benched towards the end of the year when both Gronk and Hernandez was healthy in favor of Hoomanawanui.

I don't like Fells but $300k extra is a cheap insurance policy given that the team doesn't need cap space currently. Herman is fodder, Gronkowski and Ballard are coming off serious injuries and Hernandez isn't the most durable guy.

It made sense to cut him earlier because his cap space could have been used elsewhere. Now they don't need the extra room and the benefits of letting him go are minimal

Meh. Its only 300k. Hernandez, Gronk, Ballard all coming off injuries to a certain extent. Makes sense to keep him at this point.

Reiss says it was a deferred part of his signing bonus, meaning it was just part of the $1M we assumed he had already gotten.
